God love him! Dick Van Dyke has been named the first-ever spokesperson of Cell Therapy Foundation, a public charity founded in 2007 to advance awareness about the benefits of adult stem cell research. From CTF:
Mr. Van Dyke is scheduled to record a series of public service announcements focused on educating the public that adult stem cells, which come from bone marrow, fat, umbilical cord blood and placenta, skin, muscle, and other sources, have healing functions that are leading to new therapies for many diseases. An avid graphic artist and animation hobbyist, Mr. Van Dyke will also participate in the development of an animation film project that will visually explain the repair functionality of adult stem cells in a fun and creative way.
I am truly impressed by the potential that adult stem cell research has already shown and am hopeful that by getting the message to more people, we can fund additional research that could positively impact thousands of lives around the world, said Mr. Van Dyke.
How exciting! especially considering that so many other celebrities, including Van Dykes former onscreen wife Mary Tyler Moore, have been using their voices to advance stem cell research that destroys human embryos.
If you can, please help support the Cell Therapy Foundation
Good news celebrity doing the right thing for a Friday ping for your lists!!
The destruction of human life by Embryonic Stem Cell Research is not a bug. It’s a feature.
The purpose of ESCR is to advance a utilitarian argument for making decisions about human life. Whereas the old Roe vs. Wade arguments were all about the rights of one weighed against the rights of another, the ESCR argument explicity weighs the value of a form of human life against the societal benefit that might be derived from destroying that life. The Nazis used to make arguments like that all the time, but after WWII, such things fell out of fashion, for some reason.
But utilitarian argument is back now. And just in time, because we are going to have to make a lot of decisions about unplugging Grandma from her machines, soon. We are going to have to weigh Grandma’s life value against the expenditure of government funds. I think we all know how that argument is going to come down...
And Embryonic Stem Cell Research was the thin edge of the wedge. That is what it was about all along. Nobody ever gave a damn about supposed “cures”, so nobody is particularly concerned that they failed to materialize.
Yes, we are back to the very same issues because we are back to the same for of government of Hitlers times.
Well Dick tell Hollywood. We knew all along.
Good for Dick van Dyke!
A celebrity on the right side of an argument? When was the last time that happened? Jon Voight?
