No, Rangel will introduce a bill which if passed would bring back the draft. He's done this a number of times in past sessions, and the bill goes nowhere. This one will do the same.
Agreed. Rangel has been pulling this same stunt almost since 2003 or so. What was really shameful was that during Bush's presidency, Rangel kept insisting with a straight face that only the poor & minorities were dying on the front lines in Iraq because the U.S. economy was so bad they had no choice but to join the military.
I seriously think that the Democratic symbol should now be a 99-cent Store Economy Tool Set. What a bunch of Useless Tools...
Exactly. The military doesn't even have the machinations in place to deal with an army of conscripts. The entire process of how the military trains, motivates and leads soldiers would have to be retooled from the top down to deal effectively with legions of draftees that don't want to be there.
And would the military even want conscripts? Short answer, they don't. Even with an all-volunteer service, the military is today turning away prospective recruits. The ranks are full.
He's done this in just about every session of Congress for decades now. He's just grandstanding again, as he, and anyone with two functioning brain cells knows will never be passed. And, as usual when he pulls this garbage, someone takes it seriously....

You are right, and I thought the same until I heard the bill made it out of committee and to the floor. Do you know if that is true? Thanks!
