Laser Mouse Problem
ME

Posted on 07/11/2010 2:48:14 PM PDT by plinyelder

I have a problem that I haven't seen asked about before.

On my microsoft laser mouse, I have a 'thumb' button that I use when I want the magnifier to come up.

It would always take a while to 'work' after first booting up but I suspect that was due to all the other programs loading.

The problem Now is that .. The Only way to get it to work is to go to my Control Panel, click on the mouse icon, wait for the mouse page to come up and then click OK!

All of the other functions of the mouse work without doing anything .. but the magnifier function just wont work without this very annoying ritual?

I use the magnifier "a Lot" and I was wondering if there is a way to Force this function upon start-up?

Thanks Everyone.

Probably not a mouse problem. Probably a mouse driver problem.

If it’s wireless you might check the battery.

You don’t say what browser you’re using?
In internet explorer or firefox, hold ctrl key and press + for bigger and - for smaller.

Could be a corrupted DLL/driver file.

Uninstall, then reinstall the mouse driver.

Go to the microsoft website, go to the support and downloads, search for the model number of your mouse, and download the Microsoft Desktop for your model and install it. During the installation process, it will uninstall any other drivers that are conflicting with your mouse driver.

Could be something as simple as ccleaner not saving your settings.

It drops my right click feature for file sorting such as by date or size .....I sort by type but after running cleaner I have to apply that setting again.

Ccleaner or other app for cleaning cookies or apps may be the culprits.

Delete the mouse from your hardware profile (you might want to do that in “safe mode”)

Unplug mouse

Restart computer (w/o) mouse

Plug in mouse. Plug & play should find new hardware and reinstall.

(my 2 cents - not guaranteed to work)

Subject: “Mouse Balls”

Mouse balls are now available as FRU (Field Replacement Unit).
Therefore, if a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.

Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon the manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop-off method. Domestic balls are replaced by using the twist-off method.

Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge. Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately.

It is recommended that each replacer have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction. Any customer missing his balls should suspect local personnel of removing these necessary items.”

The laser mouse doesn’t use a ball.
