"The information below was provided by a Michigan State Policeman
BE ALERT: Wayne County Sheriff's Department - VERY IMPORTANT FOR WOMEN TO READ.
On the way to Canton , driving on Michigan Avenue , on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the Canton PD and they were going to check it out. This is what I was told...
"Several things to be aware of .. gangs and thieves, are now plotting different ways to get a person to "stop" their vehicle.
"There is a gang initiation reported by the local police department that gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the baby. Note that the location of this car seat will usually be beside a wooded or grassy (field) area ...and the person - woman - will be dragged into the woods- beaten and raped- usually left for dead. DO NOT STOP. DIAL 9-1-1 AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW.
"IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD. DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5% YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THIEVES. THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS. PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES. THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES AND THESE UNSAVORY INDIVIDUALS WILL TAKE DESPERATE MEASURES TO GET WHAT THEY WANT."
Please talk to your loved ones about this. This is a new tactic used and I would hate for anyone to fall victim to this kind of crime.
Please be safe"
Considering gangs are everywhere, this could happen anywhere.
In San Antonio, not gang related, about three babies have been found sitting in the road of late, and the fourth, I think the parents just threw it out in the road.
I agree and the egg warning is good to know, thinking about it I realize wipers and washer fluid is the worst thing to do, but I would prob’ly reflex just hit them.
I won’t now! Thanks!
Although the world is certainly often unfriendly, the car seat business seems to be an urban legend:

as does the bit about the eggs:

Always nice to have a few less things to worry about!

Could be true but sounds suspiciously like the urban legend of “gang initiates drive with their headlights off and if you flash your lights at them they will turn around and shoot you”, etc
I got an email warning me about people in the WalMart parking lot asking you to sniff perfume samples and saying these supposed samples are actually ether and you will pass out and they will stuff you in a car and kidnap you. I think that one was false, too.
This sounds like another urban legend. I would take it with a grain of salt.
Yep! The police are often the first ones fooled by these rumors.
15 years ago in Los Angeles someone threw a piece of metal debris in front of my wife’s car as she was passing on the freeway. The impact forced the shock absorber up through the car body.
She passed an emergency phone on the freeway and found a manufacturing plant where the third shift let her in.
When she reported the incident to police they told her that several people had experienced similar attacks, stopped at the emergency phone, and then were robbed/beaten/raped.
It ain’t all urban legend.
Beware.
Urban legend or not, thank you for being concerned enough to share this with us. I think that most of us WOULD allow someone to play on our sympathy because most of us operate out of kindness and the Golden Rule. We don’t think like criminals think. However, never forget that Ted Bundy used a fake leg cast to gain the trust of unsuspecting women.
