Poll: Johnson fares better against Kissell than D'Annunzio [Early voting for run-offs this week]

A new survey by Public Policy Polling shows Republican Harold Johnson would give Democratic Rep. Larry Kissell a stronger challenge in the fall than Tim D'Annunzio.

Kissell leads both Republicans in hypothetical match-ups, but leads D'Annunzio by a much wider margin.

The poll also showed Kissell with "a steep decline" in his approval numbers since January. Johnson and D'Annunzio face off in a Tuesday runoff.

Tom Jensen, a spokesman for the Democratic-leaning firm from Raleigh, said D'Annunzio has been hurt by critical stories since the May 4 primary, including criticism from GOP officials. In th poll, 39 percent said their opinion of him had grown more negative since the first primary.

"The various controversies that have cropped up around D'Annunzio over the last six weeks have been devastating for his poll numbers," Jensen said on his blog.

PPP is expected to release head-to-head numbers in the GOp race on Wednesday.

Tim D'Annunzio is a lunatic millionaire who is trying to lie and buy his way to the nomination. If he is successful next Tuesday, you can go ahead and write this seat off.

Remember that there are a number of run-offs next Tuesday, but you can vote early this week. For your early voting location and time, the list is here. (If anyone can't view the PDF, let me know and I can give you the info for your county.) The run-offs:
US Sen - Dem (Elaine Marshal v. Cal Cunningham)
US House 8 - GOP (Harold Johnson v. Tim D'Annunzio)
US House 12 - GOP (Scott Cumbie v. Greg Dority)
US House 13 - GOP (Bill Randall v. Bernie Reeves)
NC Senate 21 - Dem
Also, in New Hanover there's a run-off for County Commissioner. If you're aware of any other local run-offs, please let me know.

NC *Ping*

Please FRmail MitchellC if you want to be added to or removed from this North Carolina ping list.

Let's hope NC-8 can do the right thing and nominate Johnson. D'Annunzio could not only hurt our chances in some of these down-ballot races, he could prove to be a stain for us *nationally.* He really is that bad.

It’s up to the voters.

I’m in the angry drunk who likes to grab people on the street’s district.

But Fetzer is not helping the issue any and should just STFU.

If D’A wins what is Fetzer going to do? Campaign for Kissell?

IIRC, isn’t d’Annunzio the guy who claims to see visions and stuff, and has made a number of wacko comments?

Here’s hopin’ Johnson wins.

So what you're saying is that D'Annunzio is our Al Greene?

Hopefully, Johnson will win. Did the poll do a primary match-up?

PPP released the primary poll today: Johnson leads the wack-job D’Annunzio 49%-39%. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_NC8_616.pdf

Public Policy Polling released the primary polling. Did they poll how strongly Johnson and D’Annuzio run against Kissell?

Those are the same GE numbers from the PPP poll that is the subject of this thread. Interesting article, though.

It was a crowded primary, the party-backed candidate (Huddleston) went nowhere, the likely most conservative candidate (Jordan) didn’t get his name out enough, and Johnson got in a bit late and didn’t take off soon enough. Thank God we have run-offs here.

Is D’Annunzio another transplant douchebag from New York or New Jersey? He also shares the surname of a rather notorious fascist poet, FWIW.
