Do you believe funding disease research is an appropriate function of the federal government?
Race for the Cure raises millions in private funds to supplement these efforts. Here is video footage from the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (National Mall in Washington, DC June 5, 2010)
Survivors interviewed offered advice for other people fighting cancer.
I would prefer that the feds AND the Susan G. Komen Foundation stopped funding Planned Parenthood.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation funds Planned “Parenthood.” Avoid it.
My dim memory tells me I read somewhere that women who have had abortions have a higher incidence of breast cancer. Can anyone tell me if that is true? If it is true, isnt funding Planned Parenthood at cross purposes with the goals of the Komen foundation?
OMG, are you serious? How can they justify taking money for cancer research and then spending it on abortion? Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t there been a link shown between abortions and breast cancer?
When I looked into it, I found out they won't even let you enter unless you pay money (okay, I could go along with that) AND raise at least $2,000. That I wasn't going to do. I thought it was enough to pay the entry fee.
After that, I learned about PP and was glad I didn't bother with it any more.
Indeed. Apparently Komen belives that the best way to reduce breast cancer death rates is to reduce the number of people who could get it.
DITTO, I avoid any item on the store shelves with a pink ribbon on it.
My quilt guild makes a queen size quilt yearly and raffles it off to raises money for breast cancer research, the money goes to the American Cancer Society. We usually donate $1,000 all told. Most of us object to the Komen Foundation funding Planned Parenthood. Several of our members have had breast cancer.
“...hasnt there been a link shown between abortions and breast cancer?”
YEP...and the body of evidence is growing.
(SNIP)Do you believe funding disease research is an appropriate function of the federal government? (/SNIP)
NOPE! Breast cancer research is over funded as it is because it effects almost exclusively “minority” groups (women, particularly black women). It’s also one of the most survivable cancers you can get.
Research into other cancers with much higher mortality rates is critically underfunded.
Yes
You must not have known anyone that didn’t survive breast cancer.
Hold the calls - we have a winner!
The Left is killing women. The evidence is in. All the feminists who are so proud of the Susan G. Komen foundation are actively engaged in the destruction of women.
Ditto.
My late wife, dead from breast cancer, would disagree..
I’m sorry about your late wife. You have my sympathies. My wife is battling gastric cancer.
The fact is that breast cancer has one of the lowest mortality rates in the US. You will find people who have died from every type of cancer out there, but some are more survivable than others. A lot of it is dependant on whether the person becomes symptomatic before or after the cancer metastisizes. Pancreatic cancer, some gastric cancers, and bladder cancers tend to have a higher domestic mortality rate because patients often don’t realize they have a problem until it has started to spread or become invasive, in the case of bladder cancer.
Why in the world would a foundation started to help fight cancer give money to something that causes it? I am completely baffled by this.
