AK-74 Range Report (vanity)
5/24/10
Posted on 05/24/2010 7:56:32 PM PDT by Kartographer
I took my Bulgarian AK-74 that I recently purchased from Center Fire Systems to the range yesterday the weapon is as I recieved it other than added a butt pad (didn't like how the butt fitted seemed too narrow) I was using surplus ammo that I purchased from AIM.
The only trouble I had was with the first clip the first two rounds did not chamber properly. Not sure but I think it was my fualt as I purposely reloaded the clip and used it again later and it worked just fine.
The weapon shot high and it took me a bit to get use to it, but once I did I moved the target out and was able to get the attach grouping at 50 yards and that is with iron sites.
This is a great weapon, cheap to shoot and can easily be used by anyone.

5.45x39mm Bulgarian FMJ steel core (hollow tip under plate) ammo new in packages. This is referred to as “WASP” ammo or what the Afghans referred to as “the poison bullet”.

You need to drift your front sight a bit to the left.
Front opposite. Rear same.

I’ll have to talk a bit with some one about adjusting the sites (Make sure I know what I am doing “Measure twice cut once.”) But for my first time firing the weapon I was pleased with the grouping.

You should be able to adjust the site with the tools in the cylinder located in the buttstock.

The Автомат Калашникова образца 1974 года is just that an Автомат. Did some company re-manufacture it to replace the full auto sear? And was it marketed as the AK-74? I was a buyer when the AKS conversions of the AK-47s were selling for $80-$150, but that's a 7.62x39. And it was a long time ago. I lost them all in the boating accident. ;)
