No Soup For You!

Not if it has too much salt that is. Big Brother feels that they know what is best for you, which is why the Food and Drug Administration is now planning to crack down on the amount of salt consumed by Americans each day. Heck, since the government knows best they should just nationalize the entire food industry and put us all on a daily meal plan. I just have one question - when is lobster night?

The Washington Post reported yesterday that the FDA plans on working with the food industry to gradually reduce sodium over time to wean Americans off an unhealthy appetite. I wonder if they asked Michael Moore for his opinion of this policy. Probably not. FDA officials are reportedly saying they do not even need the approval from Congress to implement their 10 year program that will set progressive salt limits on everything from bread to spaghetti sauce.

Why is the FDA wasting their time with such a pathetic issue as salt content? Apparently, kindhearted bureaucrats are so overwhelmed with concern concerned about the unsafe levels of salt Americans are consuming that they must act now. Are there seriously not any more important issues going on right now in the United States that the government needs to find things to occupy their time, such as, maybe, the economy, the surging national debt, or the 2 wars we are engaged in? Also, do we really need the government telling us more of what we can and cannot do? I am already being told I have to purchase health insurance or I will face a fine, what type of car I should drive so the earth does not explode, and that I should stay away from DrudgeReport to avoid computer viruses.

This FDA plan is just another unconstitutional overstep by the government that drastically infringes on American liberties. Additionally, just like Woodrow Wilson’s progressive income tax, this policy will give the FDA precedent to regulate our food choices more later on down the road. Will the ACLU grow a spine to take on their liberal friends and fight this issue that will undoubtedly cause greater stress on low and middle class Americans, who already cannot afford to sip green tea or the overpriced bowl of organic chicken salad?

This PDA plan, along with other government intrusions, is not about salt at all. It is about power and control. I could list numerous examples of how compassionate liberal fascists like Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin used public health initiatives to help push their bigger agenda of greater control over their people. Stripping rights is easier to do when it is under the guise of the “common good”. However, under the authority of the U.S. Constitution, there is absolutely no right for the federal government to regulate the salt intake of any American in any form or fashion.

If I want to eat potato chips and cheese fries until I am so fat that I must install an extra wide backdoor so I can wheel myself out to my truck, it is my choice, not the governments! If my grease addition causes me to have a heart attack and get rushed to the hospital in a flat bed trailer, foot me the bill and nobody else. However, knowing that poor health choices could hurt my pocketbook and even cost me my life, perhaps I will instead pick up a few apples and bananas at the grocery store that cost less than a bag of chips and salsa. Either way, stay out of my diet FDA!

I posted this a few weeks back, but the issue is still alive. Now the White House seems to be setting the motions to regulate foods to combat childhood obesity.

Gee, why don't they just require everyone to work out instead!

I am going to start carrying a saltshaker in my purse.

And it won’t be the first time.
