When the economic crisis hit in 2008, it was only a matter of time before the usual uninformed voices started bashing the private markets and capitalism. A system based on greed can never work, we were told. And the laissez-faire policies of George Bush led to the crisis. Now, these sorts of statements are ludicrous and utterly laughable for those of us who champion free market capitalism. George Bush was anything but laissez-faire, and, in fact, Bush increased regulation and government with acts such as Sarbanes-Oxley. Not only did he not reduce the welfare state, he also continued to fund the war state, although he ran as an anti-interventionist candidate in 2000. How this is laissez-faire is beyond me. Sure, Republicans and conservatives talk small government, but they never really bring about these goals when in political power.
While leftists were bashing the markets - this would also include McCain and other Republican candidates - politicians were throwing up smokescreens to direct attention away from their own participation in the market meltdown.

Politicians only talk the talk long enough to get elected. Once in office we all seemed shocked to discover they are all cut from the same cloth...
They only way we will ever reverse the current seemly unstoppable trend of a rapidly growing government is to undertake the same course of action the founding fathers did when they stood up and told the King of England to get bent.
No, It’s why I have gone anarcho-capitalist.
ala Mises.
No, the era of limited government never existed nor will it ever. This country will collapse under the bureaucracy and debt it has created. Special interests has infected DC like the Ebola virus. The left has won folks. Greece is just the beginning.
A little clue for ya....
The Americans/Founders did not VOTE the British out....nor can we now vote our enemy within out!!!!!!!!!!
Now the question IS....??????????
Semper Wondering?

You and me both, brother. The logic of the free market only leads to one conclusions: there is absolutely zero function for government. All it can ever do is destroy wealth and pervert/retard progress. I would compromise on defense only, but even that is debatable.
I would encourage all free thinkers to read Frederic Bastiat, Ludwig von Mises, Murray Rothbard, Frederick Hayek, and the other greats. You can also start with Henry Hazlitt’s “Economics in One Lesson.”

Limited government as intended by our founding fathers, will probably not occur with the present population addicted to government freebies, spoon fed class envy by the media and managed by a group of self serving lawyer politicians.
However, the free market/capitalism will survive indefinitely....underground and out of site.
“The left has won folks. Greece is just the beginning.”
I move that we send “the left” to Greece. Let them enjoy first hand that which they espouse.
Not with any of the leadership we currently have in Congress. So far as virtually all of them are concerned, the federal budget exists to ensure they get reelected.

Could be...dare I say it...perhaps that is the problem...why is the “leadership” in gubmint and not...elsewhere...?????
“No, the era of limited government never existed nor will it ever.”
You may be mad as hell but your post is not factual. It did exist and once this economic crisis is over there will be a chance to re-create it.
Economics and politics go in cycles. Ever since Marx we have been in one big cycle. But the thing about cycles is that they never stay the same.
You can dare to say it...and I certainly wouldn't disagree with you.
I’m glad to see you’re on track, I’ve been saying that for a while now. Voting won’t save the country, I’m just waiting for the storm to kickoff.
No. (That was easy)
Reagan couldn’t do it. Don’t hold your breath. You fail to understand the beast that DC has become. It will take a revolution (blood or bloodless) to strip the rot of what our system has become.
“Reagan couldnt do it.”
Of course he couldn’t. It wasn’t’ up to him. Presidents always lead people in the way they want to go. As you’ve no doubt heard, we get the gov’t we deserve.
Now the populace is getting ready to examine the idea of limited gov’t (again). And once the gov’t can’t pay its debts anymore the gov’t will get alot smaller, and the whole of politics will change once again.
