[snip]Nine activists protesting state Senator Russell Pearce's anti-immigrant bill SB 1070 chained and locked themselves to the doors of the Arizona Capitol today, forcing the Capitol Police to use bolt cutters to unchain the nine and arrest them for disorderly conduct.
One activist separate from the group handed out a statement from the nine, calling for "massive and ongoing civil disobedience to be organized all over Arizona and the rest of the nation."
Capitol Police Commander Andrew Staubitz told reporters that the nine would be transported to Maricopa County's Fourth Avenue Jail to be booked.
This list of their names was acquired from one of the lawyer's representing them, Antonio Bustamante: Faviola Augustin, Leilani Clark, Daisy Cruz, Gregorio Montes de Oca, Justine Garcia, Ernesto Lopez, Rubin Lucio Palomares, Jr., David Anthony Portugal, Jr., and Armando Rios.
Present for the rally outside was organizer/activist Alejandro Chavez, grandson of civil rights leader Cesar Chavez, who said the protest was very much in the spirit of his late grandfather.

“I have two sons in law enforcement, Colten with the Gilbert Police Department and Sean with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. My son, Sean was shot and critically wounded while serving a homicide warrant on an illegal alien on Dec. 16, 2004. What made this so unusual was that I was at the Brookings Institute talking about the nation’s failed immigration policies in Washington D.C. when I was handed a note, stating, “There is an emergency at home, call immediately.” I stepped off the stage, found a phone and called home to find that my son had been critically injured and was being air-evacuated to a hospital.”

Arizona lawmaker lashes out at Cardinal Mahony over comments on illegal immigration bill [Updated]
[snip]”He’s the last guy that ought to be speaking out,” Pearce said on the Michael Smerconish radio talk program, a nationally syndicated talk show which airs locally on KFWB-AM (980). “This guy has a history of protecting and moving predators around in order to avoid detection by the law. He has no room to talk.”
But Pearce said his legislation was not aimed at immigrants who comply with U.S. laws and enter legally.
“We love and admire immigrants who come here to assimilate to be Americans,” Pearce said. “This has nothing to do with immigration. It has to do with those who enter our country illegally.”
The senator said the cardinal was ignoring the plight of countless crime victims of illegal immigrants, including police officers who have been killed and teenage girls who have been kidnapped and raped. In a recent high-profile case, authorities suspect an illegal immigrant shot and killed Arizona rancher Robert Krentz, who was found dead on his own property.
“Where does he stand up for America and the rule of law?” Pearce said of Mahony. “He ought to be embarrassed and he ought to be drummed out as far as I’m concerned.”
Pearce said that Mahony’s defense of illegal immigrants might have to do with “tithes and offerings and how he fills the pews in his churches that has had a declining enrollment.”
He sounds good to me.
This country needs more legislators like Senator Pearce!

Watching Obama lecture us on not fixing immigration when he is not enforcing the laws reminds me of him lecturing us on the deficit and national debt.
Republicans got a unique chance to split the blacks off of the 'amnesty liberals' at least for this election. Tell the blacks that liberals are calling them racists for opposing this.,

Senator Pearce is definately one of the good guys, he also authored the Constitutional Carry Bill, (concealed witout a permit) that was signed into law by the Governor.
