Prophetic songs for our times.....

There was a great band from the late 80's called Living Colour. They had a song called "cult of personality" I went back and found it. Great song, great band. Take a listen to the lyrics or watch the video. What other songs would you list as being prophetic or relevant for our times..?

“And during the few moments that we have left, we want to talk, right down to earth, in a language that everybody here can easily understand.” (Malcolm X)

Look in my eyes, what do you see? the Cult of Personality I know your anger, I know your dreams I've been everything you wanna be ohhh… I'm the Cult of Personality Like Mussolini and Kennedy I'm the Cult of Personality the Cult of Personality the Cult of Personality

Neon lights, Nobel Prize When a mirror speaks, the reflection lies You won't have to follow me Only you can set me free

I sell the things you need to be I'm the smiling face of your T.V. ohh… I'm the Cult of Personality I exploit you; still you love me I tell you one and one makes three ohh… I'm the Cult of Personality Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi ohh… I'm the Cult of Personality the Cult of Personality the Cult of Personality

Neon lights, Nobel Prize When a leader speaks, that leader dies You won't have to follow me Only you can set you free

(Guitar solo)

You gave me fortune, you gave me fame You gave me power in your God's name I'm every person you need to be ohh… I'm, the, Cult, of, Per, Son, Al, Ity

I am the Cult of (x8) Personality

“Ask not what your country can do for you…” (John F. Kennedy) “The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.” (Franklin D. Roosevelt)

Awesome song. The bass guitar on this song is awesome.

Great song with a thoughtful message, but the lead break sucked.

The guitar riff. I suspect guitarists may consider it technically cool but IMO its way too frantic.

we are the children of concrete and steel
everything is possible but nothing is real...

yeah. insightful lyrics but very passe vibe.

Actually what's-his-name can be seen pimping that pitiful woodstock flashback "museum" in upstate ny on "The History of Rock 'n' Roll" special features section. He can also be read in the NY Times piece exploiting the new Jimi Hendrix releases by trying to turn Hendrix's musical legacy into some kind of racial statement. It's the same piece that the writer attempts to liken Barack o'Bama to Jimi Hendrix.

sickening.

I remember that I think, I can hear it now. Isn’t it just a bunch of fast scales going up and down?

Monster by Steppenwolf. A 70’s song that, for the most part, holds true today.

Sheryl Crow - Real Gone

“But there’s a new cat in town
He’s got high-faded friends
Thinks he’s gonna change history

You think you know him so well
Yeah you think he’s so swell
But it’s just a front you wait and see”

AND SHE STILL PROBABLY VOTED FOR HIM.
