Comedian Stephen Colbert won a Grammy last night at the 2010 Grammy Awards show for Best Comedy Album. The album is entitled "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!" After taking the stage, Mr. Colbert told the audience: "This is a Christmas album, so obviously I should thank Jesus Christ for having such a great birthday."

His comment seemed a little tongue-in-cheek and was met with mild laughter from the audience. He should indeed thank Jesus Christ, who is truly the greatest gift of all, but of course his remark was most likely said not in thanks, but in the interest of comedy ...

“I guess in your version Jesus is bereft of humor.”

Version? Version of what?

Colbert has continually mocked and made untoward comments regarding Christ and Christianity - all for a hearty chuckle. I enjoy occasional blue humor, but draw the line at laughing and joking at Christ's expense.

I do not know where you have drawn the assumption that I believe Jesus is bereft (deprived?) of humor.

I guess in your version (whatever “version” means-as operationally defined), it's acceptable to make a mockery of Christ, his teachings, and followers.

I await your learned explanation of how what he said last night was mocking Jesus. I saw it and heard the tone and I already disagree with your position. I can believe my own eyes and ears or your slanted view based on what the guy did in the past.

Kathy Griffin has been funny about .01% of her career, the rest of the time she is annoying, stupid, vulgar ... I doubt Jesus would want to be credited with her “success”

Ugh, fair enough.

I lose. I didn’t post to start an argument.

You’re the big winner.
