They probably want his family’s money on the alumni mailing list more than anything. Rich alumni are the whales of the college industry, and they’ll do anything in their power to land one.
It’s tUsd and no that’s not OK, because that’s a government school district using public funding. The Gates Scholarship is a PRIVATE organization using PRIVATE funding. And I don’t know if they’ve actually done with the idiotic policy, I think they quietly spiked it after it made national news, TUSD is the worst run school district in the recorded history of mankind.
“Suing the scholarship fund” would be about the most frivolous lawsuit imaginable, to be undertaken only “to make a point”. And what point would be made? Gates can do whatever he wants with HIS money, which is a Conservative principle that he’s merely living out. Now if you wanted to sue for a federally (”us”) funded scholarship fund with the same parameters as Gates’ Millenium Fund, then you’ve got something. Of course, indirectly, these already exist.
I agree that any benefactor should be able to do whatever he wants with his money - that’s a conservative principle.
But you know that a “whites only” scholarship sponsor would be attacked and punished by the state.

A quick look finds scholarships for Irish, German, Anglo-Saxon and Polish etc. etc. etc. Are you against them too?
There are scholarships for nearly everything. Back when I was looking for them, there was a scholarship for students who live in states connected to a Great Lake.

The thing for a lawyer looking to make a name for himself, then, would be to find a client who wanted to set up a “Whites Only” scholarship fund, and see what happens.
It might not be long now, after all, when “Whites” achieve minority status relative to other groups. If you lump ALL OTHER NON WHITE GROUPS TOGETHER, and apply the benefits and scholarship profile template, WHites may ALREADY be in the minority. An interesting case could be made, all the more interesting if the lawyer were defending the Whites Only benefactor, and NOT just suing Gates for being “exclusionary”. As with so much else, at the root of this is Identity Politics and Special Interest Lobbying run amuk, and destroying what’s left of any common-sense perspectives on the matter.
I recieved a $3000 scholarship which was only open to Irish citizens living in the US or 1st generation Irish-Americans. I’m guessing not many Hispanics applied.
So will anyone step and file suit?
People need to stand up and say that it is time for Black people to stop being treated like perpetual sub-humans and “the white man’s burden.” Either we compete on an equal footing with Whites, Asians, Indians and others, or we will never achieve joy on this world. We have to stop being “special”, and start dreaming of future where we are fully integrated into the world.
