Sounds like an even worse idea than it did the first time we heard it:
The US has transferred 12 detainees from its Guantanamo Bay prison camp to Afghanistan, Yemen and the Somaliland region, the Justice Department says.
Six Yemenis, four Afghans and two Somali detainees were sent to their homelands over the weekend, it said.
President Barack Obama acknowledged in November that he would miss his January deadline to close down the camp.
The US plans to send 116 detainees to their home countries or to third countries willing to accept them.
Security fears
“These transfers were carried out under individual arrangements between the United States and relevant foreign authorities to ensure the transfers took place under appropriate security measures,” the Department of Justice said in a statement.
“Consultations with foreign authorities regarding these individuals will continue.”
Yemenis account for almost half of the 198 detainees who remain at the US military base in Cuba. But officials fear many could re-join militant groups if sent back to Yemen.
The Washington Post reported last week that the Yemeni transfers were the result of months of high-level talks with the government in Sanaa.
It said US officials are prepared to repatriate more Yemenis if the transfer goes well.

ABC News is reporting that Gitmo detainees, released in 2007, are behind the Crotch-Bomb attempt. Art therapy in Saudi Arabia didn’t cure their murderous ways.
Snip: One might think that with that background, the US would be loath to trust Yemen with any of the detainees. That, however, would seriously underestimate the Obama administration’s desperation to close Gitmo:
Yemen also has a rehab program for jihadis, but it has been much less aggressive and successful than its Saudi counterpart, which has been widely praised. This is another problem in closing Guantánamo because the largest group of remaining 245 inmates are Yemenis.
Yemen President Ali Abdullah Saleh said Saturday that his government had rejected a suggestion by the Bush administration to release the 94 Yemeni detainees into the Saudi rehabilitation program, wire services reported. He added that they all would be home within three months, and placed in Yemen’s rehab effort.
A Pentagon spokesman said on Jan. 13 that of the 520 detainees released from the controversial military camp in Cuba, 18 had “returned to the fight” and another 43 are under suspicion of being involved in extremist activities. He declined to name them.
So this terrorist goes to the check-in gate where he’s directed to the blonde TSA agent (who has Janet Napolitano’s stamp of approval). She asks, “Do you have anything to declare?” The Terrorist responds, “I have a crotch-bomb.” The TSA agent goes balistic and says, “That was uncalled for. If you continue to sexually harass me, I’m going to have to report you to my superiors. Now get back in line!”

This one? I’d be surprised if he did anything else...
The Tribune housed in Illinois is pointing out that some folks that former President Bush send back to Saudi Arabia which has an acclaimed rehab program,..in fact helped with the latest Airline bomb attempt
...and now we have Obama ready to send some Gitmo detainees to Yemen which does not have a particularly good rehab program.
....OR bring them up to Illinois ...so we will be safer than having them in Yemen....
