“Barry from DC is calling?” Obama Calls Virginia Radio Show
ABC Political Punch ^ | 12-22-09 | Sunlen Miller

During Virginia Governor Tim Kaine's last radio show today on WTOP radio, he got a surprise call from a "Barry from DC."

"Barry from DC is calling," Kaine said on live radio. "Go ahead Barry"

"Well, uh, governor Kaine this is, uh, actually the president of the United States calling," Obama said joking that he had some, "questions about traffic in northern Virginia."

Actually, the President was calling into Kaine's last radio show to wish him a congratulations for a job well done as Virginia's governor.

Kaine is leaving his office as governor in January, but will remain chairman of the DNC.

The White House confirms the President made the call, but say a WTOP producer referred to the President as "Barry from DC" to keep the surprise for Kaine on air. The President didn't actually refer to himself as such.

"I just wanted to say how proud we are of your service as governor of the commonwealth of Virginia," President Obama said,"And just wish you and the family all the best."

The governor thanked him, and referenced the health care vote in the Senate.

"The vote the other night was a powerful, powerful moment and we've got a lot of good work to do and I'm looking forward to being helpful."

I'd have called him a fraud and hung up on him.

Think about it -- how often *does* a sitting President call a radio show?

Cheers!

I'm thinking about how they had time to send a text to Joe Scarborough in the morning, and call the radio show in the afternoon.

Does this president do anything besides watch TV, listen to the radio, and travel to foreign countries to diss the heads of state by rejecting dinner invitations?

So, Barry, when are you going to call Rush Limbaugh's or Glenn Beck's show?

You classless, white-livered coward.

Bush 43 called Rush to congratulate him on his 25th (I think) anniversary last year, IIRC. He called from the Kennebunkport compound and his dad talked to him as well.

Barry? Barack? What’s the difference? There’s no proof anywhere what his real legal name is.

I lived on Guam a few years ago and when people would call the local talk radio and complain about the Governor and/or his cronies the next call would be the Governor calling in to rebuke the previous caller. He did this to intimidate his adversaries and let them know he was always listening. On a small island you really didn't want to get on the wrong side of the party in power.
