Why Do You Pray?

Someone once asked me if I pray because it makes sense. And I said, “No, I don’t pray because it makes sense. I pray because my life doesn’t make sense without prayer.”

I pray because Jesus taught us, “Ask and you will receive”.

I pray God’s Word. After I ask then I thank God that I have received (even if I can’t see it yet).

Example: Thank you Lord that you will “make a way where there is no way”. The part in quotes is from the Bible. I’ve experienced God making a way for a resolution of a situation in ways I would never have thought to do.

God told us to put Him in remembrance of His Word. And .. “He watches over His Word to perform it”.

There are thousands of promises in the Bible, and God stands ready to perform them all .. All we have to do is “Ask”.

And the wind in your face just might be God blowing you kisses.

I like that.

Someone once said that courage is fear that’s said its prayers.

And that.

Where is that verse? It doesn't sound familiar to me. I have heard a song with those words, though.

No way could we have raised 2 kids (one girl one boy) without pray in our lives. Without God to guide us and teach us we would not have made it through. Even if you raise good kids it is not easy. If not for going to God in pray we would have made more mistakes then we did and all parents make them. I give God all the praise and glory for what our kids have become because without him no way would they be what they are today.
My children our in there 40+ and I feel sorry for parents today because it much harder now than it was for us. But if you go to God to do the work they will most of time turn out OK.
In God we TRUST then and NOW!

Because it seems like the right thing to do, and what I’m supposed to do.

Our Lord said, “Pray always.”

That is sufficient.

I pray to give thanks to my Lord and Savior for blessings I receive. Also, prayer is one of the only offensive weapons in spiritual warfare.

I am an evangelical Christian.

I will admit to having some problem with prayer. I don’t pray enough ... and I’m not all that good at it. I’m not a wordy guy, and am not one to complain or ask for stuff.

I have no problem praying for someone else — but have never been comfortable complaining about my situation to anyone, even the Almighty Himself. Most of my prayers for my own situation are limited to requests for strength ... “Lord, be with me on this one.”, or “No guts, no glory — right, Big Guy?”

There are people in far more problematic situations than I. God should give His attention to them — as long as I’m in His peripheral vision, I figure I’m good to go.

Isaiah 43:19, second sentence - “I will make a way in the wilderness and waters in the desert”.

So .. God will make a way where there is no way (in the natural) for that way to be made. It’s a matter of faith in God’s Word, and not in our own natural ability.

“Someone once said that courage is fear that’s said its prayers.”

That’s a powerful line.

In reality, prayer is just communicating with God. You don’t have to be eloquent in speech (Paul attested to that), nor do you have to know a lot of scripture.

I had one scripture when I started .. the one which promises that God will save my whole household. I just kept thanking God that He was going to save my whole family. God kept His Word, and it even included my wayward brother-in-law.

Just talk to God as though He was sitting next to you. He’s there - wanting to hear your voice.

The power of prayer has little to do with the person doing the praying; it is the Person to whom the prayers are offered that has the Power. I truly believe that it is way too easy to forget this sometimes "inconvenient truth" and offer prayers in the hope of manipulating God to do our will, instead of prayerfully asking God to show us what we should do to accomplish His will, and "seek first the kingdom of heaven".

Of course, my head KNOWS this to be true, but my heart so often forgets it in the process of day to day living, and then God must remind me of how darn human I am! And then all I can do is "offer" this very quick but earnest prayer--"Lord have mercy!" And that prayer He does answer!

I pray to stay in touch, to remain connected, just as with family and friends. A visitor to the inside of my head might think I was crazy, addressing an unseen listener about matters big and small. Some prayers are for thanks, some for provision, some for protection and most are on behalf of others. Few are formulaic or read from a book, although the Liturgy of the Hours intrigues me.

I pray for justice for all those people who take the lord in vain.

Tiger woods for being a slimy no good adulterer. Rush Limbaugh for divorcing the wives he has sworn to love above all others.

We pray in order to draw closer to the Lord, hear what His will is for us, and conform our will to His. We pray to enlist His help for ourselves and for others in doing service for Him and in conducting our daily lives; we pray also to seek forgiveness for our sins.
