I am definitely NOT a Lincoln Republican. Aside from precipitating a civil war that resulted in the death and disfigurement of millions of American and throwing the constitution out the window when it suited him Lincoln ranks with FDR as being the president that did the most to diminish federalism, negate the 10 Amendment, and expand the power of the executive branch at the expense of the representative branches.

Generations of publik skool graduates does tend to produce a dumbed down population which is dependent on gooberment for its survival.

All is as planned - planned by collectivists, that is.

Good article. Don't know about this, though:

Contrary to popular belief, the South was not a slave-owning monolith; only one in four Southern men had slaves (and in a rather eerie coincidence, one in four Southern men were killed in the war). Slavery was hurting poor white Southern men in a devastating way by rendering them unable to compete with the free labor of slaves.

Reason would lead one to think so, and Lincoln did see things that way. But reason was left far behind in 1860, and a lot of Southerners were willing to fight for fighting's sake, simply because it was "us" against "them."

Nothing surprises me about the ignorance of history among our population. We are a nation of illiterates. What percentage of Americans can name the current Vice President of the United States? The history that is taught in our public schools and universities is more revisionism than fact. How our nation has survived for as long as it has is truly a miracle. The worse fears about democracy are manifested in our country. We are like the fool that inherits a large fortune but wastes it all and finds himself in poverty. We have thrown away the republic that our Founding Fathers gave us, and we find ourselves in a worse situation than we were in before the American Revolution.

Anyone that thinks a state can secede without first working out terms of separation with the federal government is willfully blind. The states were protected by the unity of the rest of the states up until the time they wanted to secede and they have an obligation to the rest of the states to work out how to separate with mutual protection. A state just can’t leave and steal the federal property that was in it’s borders. Deals have to be struck on what to do with forts, posts, federal property, etc. The Article in the Constitution concerning the Acts of states covers this.

The way the southern states seceded they wanted war, then got war, and lost that war. As a result Lincoln will always be remembered as our greatest president for preserving the union and bringing freedom to all. The funny thing is the ones that hated Lincoln are the ones that proved he was our best.

I make sure that my little grandsons know that Linkum was a bad guy, not a good guy as public skrule would have them believe. Doesn't matter if you're a yankee or rebel, what Linkum did was unconscionable. You only have to dig a little deep. If you have to ask me, then you're ignorant.

ts why I teach my kids history and let me know what their teacher tells them.

It is amazing how many do not know history and how those especially up north seem to have no clue about then war except repeat the lie it was about slavery.

I love to find folks who think the battle flag is racist and it when i tell them about how it was, why it came about etc they are stunned.

When I find folks who think it was about the war and that Lincoln was from the start freeing the slaves then I love to tell them about Lincolns comments

This week is the emancipation by Lincoln and I heard one teacher say to a group of children that it was done to free the slaves.
Right away I had to correct that teacher and tell them that it never freed one slave nor did the speech free any in the border states which were not under southern control.

Infact when one reads all the speech you find that Lincoln even mentioned where exactly they could be freed and all of those areas were not under his control

watch out for the yankee troll of Non Sequitur

If he starts with the tolling then just ignore him as I and others do who know about him.
The more you try to make him see reason the more he loves the attention
