He got his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences at Bethesda. It is basically a medical school run by the military.

Depending on the residency they choose and other optional training they receive, I think USUHS grads usually incur between 8 and 12 years of obligated service after graduation.

This guy hadn't been in for 20 years. I think he finished undergrad in the late 90's and USUHS in '02.
