Election Day field report from Virginia
Patriot Room ^ | November 3, 2009 | Bill Dupray

Posted on 11/03/2009 12:43:39 PM PST by Bill Dupray

Just returned from voting here in my little corner of bright-blue Northern Virginia. Went down to the local elementary school and the poll worker checked my ID. I assumed she was a racist trying that overburdensome disenfranchising trick on me. But alas, I was ready and whipped out my license.

I asked about turnout and whether she could compare this year to 2005, the last time we had the post-presidential, off-year elections, and she said it was noticeably heavier. She said there had been a steady stream all day, which was apparently not the case four years ago.

I can't make a judgement for the entire day, but from what it was like when I went to the polls at shortly after 7:00, I'd say that she was probably lying.

How would anyone working polls remember how busy it was in an election 4 years past, and do a comparison to today’s? Seems unlikely.

Voted this morning at my bright blue NoVa station. My poll worker was either gay or extremely happy to see me. Caught him twice checking out my package - why do I always get creeped out when I deal with poll worker volunteers? Thankfully, there was a nice normal lady at the scanner.

Thanks for the update. Please keep us informed from where you are. Hopefully, Mr. Jefferson will be pleased with his neighbors today as they attempt to stem the tide of tyrannical government.

Is there a VA law requiring one to present ID in order to vote? I have lived in MD all of my life, and I have never been asked to prove my ID. Of course, MD voting is very corrupt.

Yes you have to have a valid ID.

Awesome. ID should be required everywhere.

Same applies in my town which is why I don’t understand why some polling stations do not require photo ID??? It just doesn’t make any sense!

Absentee ballots should be scrutinized and limited to only those that are out of town at the time of voting. Then they have to prove that they were out of town by showing up at a later time (ie post office, police station, whatever) to verify you truly were the person voting the absentee ballot.

We’ve got to make stricter rules on this!

I used to live in that area - Albo I know pretty well - used to be a Rep precinct worker and worked on (long time ago) Kyle McSlarrow’s campaign against Moran (the DEVIL). No VA has always been confusing to me - ought to be heavily lib dem but isn’t all the time - lots of military like we were - it’s Cucinelli land too - good luck to y’all up there - let’s hope the Koolaid spigot isn’t working today! Cheers...

If you are a political junkie, you might recall. Anyway, it was anecdotal and FWIW.

NJ requires nothing. This morning my wife and I went....my wife gave her name and address while I was speaking to someone else a few feet away. She gave my wife the “stub” and I walked over, pointed to the page and said “That’s me”....she simply said “sign here...” and then handed me the stub.

Gosh, I can see why Acorn does not want “ID” as a means to vote. I could have did a little homework and then went to any polling station and been able to vote again and again. Amazing...

Southwestern Fairfax County report ... our precinct is the Clifton Elementary School - in a heavy turnout you have to park at the bottom of the hill and trudge up the access road a quarter mile.

I voted today at 8:45 AM and was no. 135 in the R-Z name group. Took my wife there at 2:30 after she finished some errands and she was in the 450 range.

Both at 8:45 and 2:30 today I was able to park in the very small parking lot at the front door of the school. We’ve voted here for 22 years and this is the first time I can recall being able to snag a parking spot around the front door once, let alone twice.

This precinct is normally heavily Republican, so I hope there was a major turnout early in the day and for folks on their way home from work.

Jack

City of Alexandria: no bee hive of activity around Cora Kelly, which is down the street from the ACORN office in Arlandria (I'm not joking; there's a realy Saul Alinky community organization down here), like there was at the Presidential.

In Del Ray (very lib), a trickle of yuppies, not diverse at all, unlike the melting pot with long lines for the Presidential. FYI.

Well, FWIW, I just voted (Va Beach). There was a man outside the polls with a blue "Republican Sample Ballot" for anyone who asked for it. Took one and went in. Short line, about 45 people (last year it was HUNDREDS) and nearly all of them had that blue sample.

The other part though, is that it was just 5pm, so people are now getting out of work. The next 2 hours will be when we see any significant change. Presently McDonnel is up by some 20 points.

I was stationed at Dam Neck many years ago (Navy). I would think the nearby Navy and Marine bases would swing the area pretty Republican. At least in San Diego it works that way.

That would have made you a core Democrat voter.

Precisely why the Rats fight every attempt to do so. They need loose monitoring to keep their voter fraud train going.
