Powerline: HOUSE VOTES TO DEFUND ACORN (but it's just a figleaf)

The House of Representatives voted today, 345-75, to cut off all funding to ACORN. All Republicans voted for the measure. That doesn't mean it will happen, of course; the measure, which is attached to a student aid bill, goes beyond the scope of the Senate's action earlier this week. Don't assume that ACORN can't ride out the storm and have its funding quietly restored by the Democrats, now that those in swing districts have had an opportunity to tell their constituents they voted to stop funding the voter fraud/tax fraud/prostitution organization.

For now, at least, supporting ACORN is hard to explain, as Senator Roland Burris found:

This one comes from San Diego, and it is unbelievable--or would be, but for the ones we've already seen. The ACORN employee is happy to help smuggle 13 year old girls across the border to work as prostitutes. You get the feeling he's done this kind of thing before:

There was an event on C-SPAN last night which included Rep. Michelle Bachmann. She warned people not to be complacent—the vote in the Senate and the vote in the House had to do with entirely different appropriations, so there is no assurance that the Congress will pass a bill defunding ACORN through both Houses.

And point out that if they voted for the "stimulus package" they're on the record as voting FOR 8.5 BILLION dollars for Acorn, aren't they?  NO ONE should EVER be allowed to live THAT down, right?

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has started a petition to send to Obama to end the funding of ACORN. Her premise is the votes to defund in both the senate and house are fake. Both are separate bills and the way they get around it is if they can’t bring it together in conference, it never goes to the President’s desk.
