Last week, I made a somewhat disparaging remark about the Obama White House (not at all an unusual thing for me to do). I shut down Twitter, then about an hour later, reopened it and saw this warning

I partially watched a puff bio piece on Obama the other night—must have been on Biography. Coincidentally enough, one of his Dem challengers in the primary had info about his divorce released too. Anyone got more info on that? I can’t remember the guy’s name offhand.

…..the Tribune finally admitted that it was Axelrod and the Obama campaign that brought pressure on the press to demand the unsealing of M. Blair Hull divorce records, which had had their contents leaked to media outlets by the Obama campaign even earlier. The Obama campaign also helped orchestrate a demonstration by women’s groups demanding Hull’s withdrawal from the race. Coincidentally, this was the same weekend Obama’s first commercials hit the airwaves. Interestingly (or maybe not), the same exact thing happened to another of his rivals–Jack Ryan. Certainly gives one pause.

White House Has Secret Plan to Collect Your Personal Internet Info Yid with lid
The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) has discovered a secret White House project to harvest personal date from social networking websites like facebook and twitter.
The White House office of New Media has sent out a request for proposals from technology vendors to develop and run the project. According to the proposal request, the information to be captured includes comments, tag lines, emails, audio, and video. The targeted sites include Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and others – any space where the White House “maintains a presence.” The Proposal requests a bid covers allowing this project to last eight years. what else does the Obama administration want to last eight years.
UPDATE: Charles W adds, This is not a secret plan. As a RFP (request for proposal) has been issued, the White House is openly pursuing the ability to search, store and track anyone’s web activity. Link has within it a link to the 50-plus page RFP.

I decided I did want to see the certificate, so I selected “View Certificate”, and this is what I got:

Both links just worked for me. However, I can’t read the “warning” reported by the original poster. It is too small. The only thing that shows up is the certificate supposedly issued to www.whitehouse.gov.

I found this to be rather disconcerting, to say the least. So I closed Tweetdeck and tried to log in to Twitter on Google Chrome - same certificate wanted to install:

Now, if this or any other SSL Certificate pops up when you are trying to access Twitter or Facebook, DO NOT install it!. I was able to resolve the issue by running Spybot.
SSL Certificates are serious. If this was truly coming from the White House, I am really pissed, scared and annoyed. If this was a prank from a Leftist Joker trying to dissuade me from my free speech rights, I am simply pissed and annoyed.
I would love to know if anyone else has experienced this. Also, who do I notify? The Freaking Government? I don’t think so! Maybe the ACLU?
