Government control of private Internet next?

While Americans are under the illusion that the government cannot take away their right to use the Internet, an effort by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-VA) is underway that appears to permit President Obama to seize control of the private-sector during whatever he deems to be a cybersecurity emergency

According to CNET News of August 28, 2009, Rockefeller has been working on giving the government the right to shut down private computer networks if it decides that it is necessary.

Obama has selected the “czar” of his new Emergency Internet Management Agency. The acronym for the new agency is ENIMA. The person chosen is a Dr. Goebbels (photo below) who described the mission statement of the organization: “To purge any crap about der furh -- er – President Obama out of the internet by any and all necessary means.” Herr Doctor reminded the interviewer that failure to comply with the rules and regulations to be administered by ENIMA will be dealt with “most harshly because ve know ver you live.”

Link this to the effort by the 0’s Department of Homeland Security to define those in opposition to 0 as “domestic terrorists” one sees a disturbing trend here.

So what.

As an IT pro for 20+ years I call BS on this hysterical overreaction.

It’s a crappy and ridiculous proposed bill that is badly framed, incoherent as policy, and nearly impossible in practice.

But some minor pieces of it are already de facto standards (e.g., that contractors have certain IT certifications).

The notion that any single person could shut-down or “control” the Internet is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know why people like Beck and Rush are propagating this nonsense.

Even if it was technically possible to “shut down the Internet” - and it most assuredly IS NOT POSSIBLE - the global social, economic, and political ramifications are so profound that any “person” who chose to do so would themselves impeached, ejected, and in the literal gutter within not days but hours.

Doesn’t China have this control today?

This is important because, even if it didn't work, explains the total communists control that King Obama is placing in America. It is the theory of kicking your a@@ into slavery.

I think they’re trying to divert our attention from the “health care” power grab.

Rockefeller simply has his panties in a wad because the “peons” have “dangerous” access to too much information and ability for mass communication. Such information should be only available to the “controllers”.

I think we take internet access too much for granted and I suspect in the coming months and years we will see why.

Yep. They’ve been doing this since Zero ‘coronation’. It’s like throwing a bag of marbles on a wooden floor in front of a heard of cats. That’s their game.

This is such an egregious abridgment of our fundamental right to communicate with each other, that even the libs will fight it.

I think this thing is dead on arrival in its current form. They’ll have to try to sneak it in through some other legislation, but the cat’s out of the bag. Folks will be watching this congress like a hawk, until we vote them out next year.

Don't look at their actions. Look at their motives. Try to determine what they envision as the "end game".

This is why I don't want ANY government involvement in health care. We have seen their end-game (H.R. 3200) and it is scary. Any watered down version is just a stepping stone to incrementally implement the "end game" of total government control of our lives.

The internet’s communication bypass of the statist media is a “black swan” moment the oligarchs did not expect and definitly do not like.

They want to be able to grind Mr. Smith (goes to washington) to a pulp with their PERSONAL media control. How can they herd the sheep if the sheep can see the man behind the curtain?

As a computer science graduate, I’m not as quick to say it’s not technically possible. Most anything in the world of software is possible, but I suspect it wouldn’t so much be a magic piece of software, but more of the federal government exerting influence over the major backbone providers. The government has a long history of enslaving business to do its bidding. Sure they may not be able to throw a switch and instantly block all Americans from all TCP/IP communication, but they could tamper with major data paths which could dramatically bog down the Internet or prevent access to certain/many websites all together.

Having said that, It’s not politically likely they could get away with it. Still disturbing that there would even be such talk.

Obama’s over-reaching continues, and continues to wake the Sheeple. It is looking like all or nothing now. They either take us to full-blown socialism from here or the socialist movement is set back 20 years. I’m terrified which outcome will win out. Of course, an unbiased media would have every person in this nation mortified by Obama’s brazen power grab. Well OK, not Obama, but his shadow masters and the ones who pulled Clinton’s puppet strings as well. You know what I mean.

Shutting down a few of the biggest pipes would have the effect of shutting down the entire network. When the load tries to switch to smaller pipes those pipes will throttle traffic to the extent a dialup modem would be faster.

So in summary, you don’t have to shut down the entire network just a hand full of big pipes.

Last night the ticker going across FOX said that Rockefeller’s office claims it is revising the bill.

I suspect they were embarrassed by the bad publicity. Now that the cat is out of the bag there will be a lot of eyes on the re-write.

I think they are hitting us with everything they have and hope to get 80 or 90% of it. Cap n' Tank is likey the most destructive to the economy of all the economy destroying things Obama and the Democrats are doing.

Our nation is in great peril right now, and it was never necessary. Democrats/Marxist/Communist are raw, stupid, evil.
