PWW - Policing While White

Listening to some of the liberal mainstream media commentators about the arrest of Professor Henry Louis Gates one would think that it was the natural order of things that the police officer, Cambridge MA, PD Sgt Crowley was a racist. This is their worldview.

Yet, race is not a factor in the attitude of cops toward suspects according to a 2003 study. In fact, in at least one city, the cops show more regard for blacks than they do for whites.

The research was conducted by three criminologists, and published in the August 2002 edition of Criminology, the Journal of the American Society of Criminology. This study is the academic equivalent of a weapon of mass destruction for the race-baiting, cop-hating, social activist/trial lawyer industrial complex. Yet, not one word about it was mentioned in the media - not even the putatively "conservative" media of talk radio or Fox News Channel.

The authors of the study

I wish the media would be called on this worldview more often. This is blatantly prejudicial. They look at the actions of 1 or 2 individuals, they make a quick judgement, then they make sweeping statements about the prevalence of racism in a) police depts b) among whites c) the US.

Hey, I have an idea, why don't I see if I can find 1 or 2 incidents involving blacks committing violent crimes and then I can make a few sweeping generalizations of my own. What? That would be wrong? Bigoted? Prejudicial? Racist?

The one good thing that should come out of this is that the race hustlers and race baiters have discredited themselves once again, and made their tactics plain to more of the US population.

But I have two complaints of unfair treatment by the police myself, being white and sort of blond, etc. I’ve been the victim of profiling myself, and just to give two examples:

1. Driving while out-of-state, 1,000 miles from home, got me pulled over in Omaha, Nebraska for no other reason, was delayed on the street for fifteen or more minutes while the cops held the documents I gave them and talked over their car radios for an extended period, running criminal checks on me. Finally returned documents and let me go.

2. Walking for exercise after 9 pm. Often walk after traffic dies down on state highway in front of home. Have been stopped twice and questioned what I was doing. Volunteered driver’s license and pointed out that it matched the address on the mail box both times.

Everyone is stopped by the police sooner or later, when they were doing nothing illegal. It’s irritating, but those with a little common sense just cooperate with the cops.

Here we go...

Soon we will be ‘enlightened’ and discover that ONLY people ‘of color’ are fit to be in law enforcement. Which means we’ll need legislation to insist on it...

Walking for exercise after 9 pm

FWIW....the advice that the cops give us for Neighborhood watch is "That if you're not sure, call". The reasoning is that in general and contrary to popular opinion, they can't just stop people and 'hassle' them.

However, if someone has called 911 and said "there's a strange blond guy walking in front of my house"....now they've got a reason to talk to you. And, in your case, you said "hey, I'm supposed to be here, just out for a walk, yadda yadda yadda." Cops said "OK" and that was the end of it.

In my neighborhood, over the past three years, I've called 911 for two instances. The first was a team of guys "selling meat" door-to-door. I just got a funny feeling from them and they didn't have a peddler's permit, so I called the cops as soon as I shut the door. Cops nailed them just as they were kicking in a neighbor's (not at home, thankfully) door just around the corner from my house.

Second was just recently. Black guy walking up and down our (dead-end) street. Again, something just seemed out of place. I called 911, cops show up, guy takes off running. Unfortunately he disappeared into the next neighborhood over and got away. Officer responding thought that he was casing houses for activity, they'd had some problems in our area of late.

Both times I said "If I'm wrong and these guys are on the up-and-up and get 'hassled'...man I'll feel lousy if there's a problem." I've not been wrong yet.

Actually, there's about 200 yards of road frontage with only my house. I'm known to the nearest neighbors. I think it was a case of new, young cops who didn't know me just deciding to ask why I was walking back and forth along the state highway at 9 pm. The local police routinely ride by my house more than once per day.
