Juan Williams and Me on Obama, Henry Gates and Cambridge Police
www.kennethdurden.com ^ | A Free Man, Thinking Freely

I just heard Juan Williams on Sean Hannity and I almost wrecked my car. While Mr. Williams and I don't agree on everything (who does?), I was thrilled to hear him discuss the insanity of President Barack Obama and Professor Henry Gates attacking Cambridge police officers. It's bizarre and foolish for a black president and a black Harvard professor to lecture a white cop on how unfair life is in America.

I'm so tired of the victim mentality. Black people need to stop with the excuses for . Black people need to stop acting as if they have no opportunity. I say this as the son of two black parents with little education. I say this as the youngest of 7 children, the only child not born during Jim Crow in Georgia.

Liberalism has failed black people miserably. It's time black people to get the chip off their shoulders, seize the opportunities before them and stop looking to the Democrats or any political party for their salvation.

Sure, life is unfair. Get over it. There will always be someone with more money, more access, better connections, whatever. We cannot waste our time complaining. We cannot look to the government to solve our problems.

The problems in the modern black community have nothing to do with slavery. The chaos that reigns in urban America have everything to do with culture.

That is good advice for everyone! 'Liberalism' is Marxism with a touchy-feeling mask.

You certainly understand what so many don’t. My parents had very little, but they always kept telling me to get an education; they told me every day to do well in school. As a result, I enjoy a good standard of living. Culture and education are both critical to success in this world.

Not surprising at all. Juan Williams has been quite vocal on the need for self responsibility in the black community. I believe he recently wrote a book on the subject. Unfortunately, he and Bill Cosby stand alone in their beliefs and have often been subject to heavy handed treatment by the black victimology crowd.

Integrity is a good trait.

I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but rent Cadillac Records and watch the reaction Howlin Wolf has to Muddy Waters. He tells him to grow up (in some fashion) and be a mana and stop waiting on whitey to do anything for him. It was the best scene in a movie I have seen in a long time.

“I just heard Juan Williams on Sean Hannity and I almost wrecked my car.”

Fortunately, I was sitting in my Lazy Boy with my feet up on the foot rest watching Fox News when Juan made that comment.

So I couldn’t fall and hurt myself.

I posted this yesterday. Juan’s father was a boxing coach; therefore, I would never, ever get into fistfight Juan.

Sounds like something worth watching. Truly, the sentiment was once common in the Black community. During segregation and even before, there was a sense of representing one’s race in an honorable way. Something was lost along the way.

Yes. I like that expression. John McWhorter has written about the victim mentality as well. I recommend his book “Losing the Race.”

Ha. I’m glad. I maintained control of my vehicle but couldn’t wait to get home to write about it.
