Over the last three years I have worked with three different designers from Honduras, two men and one woman. Two still live in the country, while one of the men relocated to Brazil this past winter. During this time I have spent many nights chatting with them about work, family and occasionally about politics.
When the story broke about the Honduran president being ousted, I immediately tried to reach my friends to no avail. This afternoon Jane contacted me via Skype and we talked for about an hour (Im not using her name because she works with a lot of people in the US and she doesnt want her politics interfering with her work). Heres the questions I asked her and the responses she provided. Note: I sent her the text of this post before publishing it to ensure I was accurate in her statements. She has confirmed her answers and gave me permission to post this information publicly.
Dan: Is everyone going crazy down there now or what?
Jane: Not really. There are maybe a few hundred people who supported Zelaya protesting, but most of the people were proud of what happened.
Dan: The media here is basically saying this was a coup and your military has taken over the country. Theyre equating it to the coups of the 60s and 80s.
Jane: All the military did was arrest him and fly him out of here. They did that to protect him. If they had not sent him away he could have been injured or tried to turn this into something more than essentially someone committing a crime being arrested and deported.
Dan: So is the military in charge?

Excellent synopsis.Clearly ali Hussein Kenyan Boy-King Marxist post-historic icon is sweating over the flat refusal of a brave people to be enslaved.
Very interesting.
"Is the Military in charge?"
"No. Right after they arrested him, Parliament impeached him and the next person in line was made President - and hes from the same political party as Zelaya, so there wasnt even a change in party, just the president who was acting against the constitution. There are soldiers guarding some places and a few people, but that is to keep them safe. There are some people who wanted Zelaya to be able to be President forever, but he can only run for 1 term. He wanted to throw out our constitution so he could essentially install himself as dictator for life. Anyone who is out there protesting FOR him are either his personal friends or hard-line socialists or hard-line communists - and thats saying alot since our government is run by leftists already."
The rule of law, per the Honduras Constitution, was apparently followed, and Micheletti is the legal, legitimate President of Honduras. Time's up Zeyala. To President Micheletti: I as an American sincerely apologize for our leadership's behavior with regard to the recent events in your country re: the lawful impeachement and removal of power of the previous president. I wish you well during your brief interim service in the post, and I pray for your safety and that of your country.
Ha!
There was no coup!
It was a Supreme Court ordered change of command. ;o)
In the meantime, Obama has shown his true colors, and where his sympathies lie, to the max.
Do the misguided, mentally-atrophied-from-American-Idol folks who elected President Obama really yearn for a life akin to that of the citizens living under a Castro, or a Chavez, or a Mugabe? That's "change" - but "hope" only for the would-be leader, despair for the people.
Bumping both of your posts!
So...when do the sheeple wake up?
I hope and pray it’s happening now.
At a certain point there will be such rage that no one will admit to ever having supported the bony poseur.
Amen.
The leadership in the U.S. right now is an embarrassment to all civilized people. It is an insult to 40,000 years of struggle to progress out of barbarism and ignorance. I am deeply ashamed that any of our politicians have the gall to call themselves Americans.
Actually, we have the American president the world wanted us to have. Remember all the polls that said that most of the world preferred Obama over McCain. Well, for those in the international community who wanted Obama to be our president, they shouldn't lament the fact that we won't give a damn about anyone's freedom (except maybe the freedom of gays to get married) for the next 4 years.
All those people are an embarrassment to humanity too. They have rendered evolving from primordial sludge completely pointless.
Aye. And was it not Bush who was the embarrassment, with citizens like you and me feeling the need to apologize on behalf of his administration? What would Bush be doing right now? Would I need to apologize on his behalf?
I was not thrilled with everything Bush did but I don’t think he would be siding with a deposed executive traitor or calling the due process of law a “threat to democracy.”
But I could be wrong since I haven’t heard one Republican stand up for Honduras and the truth yet.
* The freedom to marry your dog.
* The freedom to murder your baby.
Freedom to put that nice walkway and raised cabana across the swamp on the property you own? No, might hurt the froggies.
Freedom to buy as much fuel as you wish for use in your cars, trucks, four-wheelers, and dirt bikes? No; you shouldn't be doing those things anyways as they contribute to this imaginary ponzi scheme of global warming.
Freedom to work hard and build a business that will allow you send your kids to private Christian school? No, that is greed, and you should have to pay for our secular humanist schools in addition to private tuition. Moreover, why would you not want to teach your kids how they can "do it" at an early age, and deprive Planned Parenthood of profits. You sir, I am serving you with a fine on top of those other taxes, to spread the wealth to those downtrodden folks to whom you are denying it for your own filthy gain.
Freedom to choose what gun to buy, and how much ammo? No. Lead harms the environment. Moreover, the government has control of guns. What? You don't trust us? Well, in our good-hearted nature we will allow you, in the spirit of the Second Amendment, to rent rifles from government-approved rental agencies run by Forestry Service, to be used only within the confines of the designated perimeter fence. That should be all you need a gun for.
and that's a Zero nightmare I'm sure. There's an obscure bill before the House to kill the limit on more than 2 terms. Rep. José Serrano introduced HJ Res 5 in January 2009 to enable Zero, the same way he hoped to enable Clinton back in 2003, when Serrano first introduced the bill.
Interesting, and worth reading.

What is the GOP’s problem? They are absolutely gutless.
I truly fear where their loyalty really lies.
