between 28,000 and 30,000 years ago, an anatomically modern human in what is now France may have eaten a Neanderthal child and made a necklace out of its teeth..

This is another reason why I don't like French food

(with that fancy sounding name ya never know what's in it)

It's the ridge directly in front of the opening where the mandibular nerve enters the lower jaw. It's marked "Mandibular for.(amen)" in this drawing from Gray's:

France eh? I wonder what they ate first?

The ancient Celts [including the Gauls who inhabited modern day France] were “head hunters”.

Many beautifully silver filgreed skulls have been found and it is postulated that they were the skulls of vanquished enemies.

They would “drink to their slain foes” from their own decapitated skulls as a tribute and to “absorb” the strength of the fallen warrior.

As with many ancient peoples, the glorification of the strength of your conquered enemy was a boast of your own even greater strength.

[no one has really touched upon the issue of what happened to the *rest* of the dead guy...pot luck stew?]

“Early Human Dined on Young Neanderthal”

There’s a band that fits the title “Fine Young Cannibals”
