So today, I had the first serious round of my great grandmother Hales sliced tomatoes, a recipe from the Hale House tea room in Glastonbury, CT from Im not sure the twenties? Its simple but guaranteed if the ingredients are exactly right garden fresh tomatoes and basil, in particular. Im posting this in part to taunt a regular reader in Maine, where high Summer has apparently not arrived to this extent....

In the desert here, our yard’s tomato growing season ends before April has expired. We had some good ones this spring.

I see those tomatoes in that recipe and I want to serve them over some angel hair with some mozarella sprinkled on top.

The only thing that stops me from complaining from the heat are my tomatoes.

At last count my 6 plants had 32 tomatoes on them here in North Texas. Can’t wait. Onions for some reason just quit growing, they’ve got short green tops but not much in the way of bulbs.

Here in mid-Missouri, the local Mennonite community have fresh tomatoes for sale in early April. They get an early start in greenhouses and are sold for $3.60/pound.

I add a ton of Potash for my onions, it seemed to help. Last year mine
did the same thing.

We had a frost June 1st.
Next year, though, my geodesic greendome will give me tomatoes in June, good Lord willing.

One of my tomato plants was bent over about four inches from the ground. When I checked why, I found a small (about 1 in caterpiller - black with white stripes going down its back) eating into the stalk. Doggone it!!! >:-(

I’ve got three beer flats full of various tomatoes sitting on one of the tables. We made fresh salsa and Pico de Gallo this past weekend.

Here in Atlanta, my tomatoes have quite a few growing. Expecting them to be ready by the weekend. They would have been ready earlier, but we had such a cool rainy Spring.

Your salad sounds incredible. Fresh Salsa comes to mind as well. But alas ... I am looking forward to that afternoon when I walk out and pick my first Rutgers, enjoying it as one eats an apple ... right on the spot.
Nothing better than that. Well .... let me revise that statement.

Due to weather issues mine are just two weeks in their large pots, and are still suffering from leaving the greenhouse environment. At this rate I may have tomatoes in August. I think Monday the sixth we had a record low of 35 degrees.
