Glenn Beck Pops Up Next in the MSM Shooting Gallery
The American Thinker Wall ^ | April 12, 2009 | Lee Cary

Posted on 04/12/2009 2:14:28 AM PDT by Scanian

FOX News’ Glenn Beck is putting himself right in the crosshairs of the big liberal media by doing something relatively unique – teaching history to his viewers.

Recently, the Obama administration joined with the MSM in an unsuccessful effort to make Rush Limbaugh the demonized personification of what it means to be a conservative. All it did was raise Limbaugh’s ratings. They’ve since backed off.

You would have thought Rahm Emanuel would have learned after the beating Senator Harry Reid suffered when Limbaugh raffled off the complaint letter Reid send to Limbaugh’s radio network host and netted four million dollars (two of it Limbaugh’s) in proceeds that went to the children of those who’ve died in service to the nation.

Next in line for old media ridicule is Glenn Beck. His Soupy Sales demeanor makes him, at first glance, appear to be less than a serious political commentator. His self-deprecating humor stands in stark contrast to the pomposity of Bill O’Reilly’s Factor format where Big Bill’s looking out for the folks. In contrast, Beck is dumb like a fox on FOX.

Beck avoids the tiresome FOX format (tiresome to me anyway) of dueling talking heads, as a twenty-something “Republican Strategist” debates a thirty-something “Democratic Strategist,” talking over each other. Can’t help but wonder what all these young “strategists” do between elections. Park cars, or deliver pizza?

A guest on Beck’s show has a better-than-even chance of getting to finish a sentence without being interrupted by a counterpoint.

Liberals aren't real intelligent.

Even the smart ones are blinded by their hatred of reality and deepseated intellectual dishonesty.

He does educate people, or he helps them educate themselves.

His charts, and explanations are easy to understand, even though he’s explaining some complex things.

And the books he recommends are marvelous. We recently purchased the book, The 5000 Year Leap, after hearing about it on Beck’s show. My husband started reading it yesterday and told me what a great book it was, so I’m looking forward to digging in.

Of all the Fox anchors, I find Beck and Cavuto the most entertaining and enlightening (hey isn’t that Beck’s radio motto: The fusion of entertainment and enlightenment.)

Could not agree more. A good example was this past Friday when his guests got to make their points no matter how long it took. Very refreshing. I also agree with you on Neil Cavuto, just a great interviewer.

I watched Beck on O'Reilly. BOR never let Glenn finish a sentence.

Beck is certainly smarter than the average liberal media personality.

Friday’s show was a trap for liberals. He told them a week ahead of time that he would set it. Told them when he would set it and invited them to watch him set it. Sure enough, liberals couldn’t resist and threw themselves into it.

I now have a hard-coded neural pathway to the thumb which controls the 'channel UP' button on the remote. As soon as the brain detects a talking head stepping on someone else's sentence to get their fifteen seconds of fame the thumb reflexively hits the button.

I saw that interview, raybbr. No matter what Neil said she kept acting(?)like she couldn't figure out why in the world these people were having the tea parties. She was so aggravating, I swear I wanted to b*tch slap her.

Did you see Neil's hand shaking at the end? He was so frustrated.

I wish Glenn would stay off the BOR show. Bill talks down to him in the guise of humorous repartee.

Glenn is big enough now that he doesn't have to play Costello to O'Reilly's Abbot.

I am beginning to wonder if BOR did it boost his own ratings? Glenn is so much more talented that BOR and his ratings are climbing fast. I think that BOR was trying to cash in a bit.

"When you get flak from the ground, it means you are over the target."

They are starting in on people like Beck (character assassination will be their next move), because their internal intelligence tells them he is starting to effect millions of people through the tube ala Howard Beale; he is fortifying the anti-Obama/anti-elite/anti-MSM, patriot opposition in place already, and he is starting to appeal to the middle ground which is weak for Obama and only temporarily swayed his way for the election but which is "flippable" through increasing adversity either in the domestic economy or international tests of Zero ending failure. When, a) their conservative oposition fortified becomes stronger and organized; and b) those not in that orbit are also reached through education and viewership increase,

they are going to take a big dump in their pants.

For the libs faced with an effective challenger in the public mind space who is going around the MSM and getting directly to the people: The first step is to ignore. Next step is to ridicule. Third step is to attack. Forth step is......I will leave that up to your imagination, but I would say we are going to be entering some hard ball days here in the next few years in the Republic. It had to give one way or the other, with such a polarized situation of patriots on the one side, and "the enemy within" on the other. Something has got to give. Beck is the precursor to warm up the show IMHO.

I'm not so sure O'Reilly is not so talented. In fact, I think him extremely talented. My problem with him is that I think he is now convinced of his own extreme talent and is becoming the centrist Larry King (just without Larry's courtesy to his guests). It's one thing to refuse to permit propaganda and spin to go unchallenged. It is another to spot the attempt and try to throttle it in mid-debauch. Let the antagonist have their say. Then refute it, if you can. That's what Beck does and what O'Reilly either hasn't the patience to do or thinks he must cram that much show in that he hasn't the time. So, it's not lack of talent, I think it's lack of humility. You wouldn't expect a lot of humility from "A Bold, Fresh Piece of Humanity" now, would you?

It is an effort by Fox to cross-pollinate the audiences. In the beginning it was hoped to help Beck, but it has also boosted BOR. They are the number 1 and number 2 shows, although I see BOR reign as #1 coming to an end, especially when the give Beck Hannity's spot. I am disappointed in the Hannity show.

I truly hope you are right. I don't get to watch Beck because of the time. Hannity is old and tiring.

When BOR opposes a view from the right, BOR is a debate-free zone. BOR gives the left some opportunity to air their side. But when BOR disagrees with the right, he just mocks it and never allows any dissent.
