Obama's mysterious trip home -- what was that all about? (Fitzie ?)
Illinois Review ^ | 2-16-09

Okay, so the President and his family came home to Chicago this weekend to get a haircut, play basketball with friends and take his wife to Valentine's Day dinner at Gold Coast's Table 52.

This is what we're to believe the President has time to focus on, as Iran develops world peace-threatening nuclear weapons, Illinois-based soldiers die in Iraq and Afghanistan, the American economy teeters on the edge of falling into bottomless catastrophe?

Amazing timing, don't you think? The very day that Roland Burris admits he didn't really tell the Illinois House impeachment committee, "the truth, the WHOLE truth, and nothing but the truth"... and we're not supposed to connect any dots here?

Would it be possible that this trip home was at the behest of U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and the FBI wanting to have, perhaps, an "on-the-record" conversation with the President himself about Blagojevich and the U.S. Senate seat?

Is there a White House press corps questioner willing to ask? Maybe before he gets back on Air Force One at 10:00 am this am?

Look, if the Dems start saying we're just too paranoid, our response wil be from now on, thanks to Roland Burris, if it's our fault for not asking the right questions that we don't get "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" we're going to start asking ALL the questions that occur to us.

Blago subpoenas include Obama aides

###

It appears that Barack Obama won’t escape the Rod Blagojevich scandal as easily as first thought. Two senior aides to Obama have been served with federal subpoenas, calling into question how closely the Obama transition team may have been tied to Blagojevich’s attempts to sell Obama’s vacated Senate seat:

Sweeping federal subpoenas of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s administration include requests for records involving David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett, senior advisers to President Barack Obama.

Among 43 subpoenas released by the Blagojevich administration Friday, one from Dec. 8 seeks notes, calendars, correspondence and any other data that relate to Axelrod, Jarrett and 32 other people and organizations.

That was the day before the FBI arrested Blagojevich, a two-term Democrat, on charges that he tried to trade his appointment to replace Obama in the Senate for campaign contributions.

Wiretapped conversations show Blagojevich thought Jarrett was interested in the seat and he wanted campaign money or a high-paying job in return, according to a sworn statement.

Obama’s staff released a report in December that said his staff had no inappropriate contact with the governor’s office about the Senate seat, nor was anyone aware of any dealmaking. Axelrod, a Chicago political strategist now in the White House, was not mentioned in the report.

Blago-Rahma followers will recall that the Obama transition team reportedly wanted Jarrett to get the seat.

If they pushed Jarrett, two people would have been most likely to act go-between. Rahm Emanuel was the early favorite for that job, but David Axelrod would have been better placed to work between all of the different factions.

Of course, this new revelation opens a new question. Why did the internal report from the Obama team not mention Axelrod when they cleared themselves of all complicity in the scandal?

It seems like a strange oversight in retrospect. Perhaps the feds thought the same thing.

But there was an emergency bill that needed signing...

It was a dire emergency, as I recall.

So dire that there wasn’t time to read the bill.

Every time I read a story about what a flub OZero is, I am amazed at what a flub-up McCain was. He really could have won.

Right.

This porkulus bill was hurry, hurry, rush, rush .. and now
he’s nonchalantly putting off the signing until tomorrow?

What hypocrisy and forked tongue.

Was all this pressure, with no time for the pols to even read and digest the trashpile, really JUST for Queen Nancy’s trip to Europe?

McCain may have had that certain 'something' that convinced Arizona voters to elect him to the House and then the Senate, but as a national campaigner he isn't very good. All that fuss from McCain & the Media about how Bush did him wrong in South Carolina in the 2000 primaries just proves to me the McCain isn't willing to do the kinds of things necessary to win elections at that level. When he finally got the Republican nomination in 2008, it was pretty much handed to him (like he wanted). Then McCain goes out & lays down for Obama. It was all so predictable if you looked back at McCains past performance.

I think the thing that stands out to me the most is that, barely a week after the Prez goes to some elementary school to read stories to the kids because he’s “tired of the White House”, he now takes a vacation.

Did he not consider the consequences of actually winning the election? Being President is not a low-stress job, and does not have “banker’s hours”.

Why do you think the Media and the Dem crossover voters chose him as our candidate? It definitely wasn’t because they thought he could win.

Then McCain goes out & lays down for Obama.
That's exactly what he did. And you're probably right about the reasons.

Of course, it didn't help that McCain had ZERO PRINCIPLES himself, unless you count the "principle" of "reaching across the aisle" to Those Who Have No Principles.

Just think what a great 3AM commercial this would make. It’s 3AM and the phone rings. The person who answers says, hold please and then comes back on to say, sorry the president is _____ and can’t be disturbed.

The _______ could be... on vacation, sleeping, away for a romantic weekend with his wife, etc
