To my Conservative Friends:

I digress for a day from discussing Conservative issues and liberal tooling to comment on the steroid use in baseball and how it has destroyed the legacy of our great game...

Unless you have just emerged from under a rock somewhere, you know that the best player in the game, Alex Rodriguez, just admitted that he used banned substances between the years 2001 and 2003. In a very emotional interview yesterday with respected baseball man Peter Gammons, A-Rod almost broke down several times as he copped to his transgressions and apologized several times to the fans and to his supporters...

Now I know a lot of you are saying "Who cares" and that we have bigger fish to fry with the economy in the toilet and people losing their jobs and homes... To those comments I say...

It may destroy the organization Major League Baseball but game won't be destroyed.

Sorry the “professional” players destroyed MLB and the ‘94 strike did it for me.

Agreed. I have not watched a game since Kirby Puckett retired. No reason to.

Ruth and Mantle were raging alcoholics. Alcohol is a performance inhibiting drug. What would they have been like if they were juiced?

A person’s got to be damned desperate for entertainment to pay the price of a ticket to a professional sporting event these days...and his threshold for being entertained has got to be pretty low, too. Who really cares what the guys from “Thugz-R-Us” do?

I think steroid use was bigger than we think. I think it is dangerous for them who use it.

This will harm A Rod more than anyone else. Some got caught and they will pay the price for everyone.

What's your point? (heh)

Anyway, baseball is not an autochthonous American sport...it was invented in England.

And another thing: sports guys are just jocks, for chrissakes! Remember the jocks from high school? Why would I want to transfer some of my wealth to jocks? Makes no sense.

Some of my best childhood memories were on a baseball field.

Think of how many adults in the future will say "some of my best childhood memories were spent playing World Of Warcraft".

It's just not the same, in so many ways.

Pardon me your disappointments in the game, because it is just a game.

Would any of you never become interested in it, in the first place, because of the Black Sox scandal of 1919? Why, it ruined the game forever!

How about the utter swinishness of Babe Ruth, partying with a half dozen hookers, then swilling a quart of orange juice and vodka while gobbling a dozen hot dogs, before hitting a fastball hard enough to turn it into powder? Shameful. Immoral. Ruined the game forever!

Can anybody say that they get more excitement out of typical infield plays than when some somebody knocks one out of the park? Most people don’t want to watch a pick-up softball game when they could be watching pros do what ordinary people can’t.

Yes, some players used steroids to play better. But that’s better play. They got away with it for a while, and everybody got to see some better play. They raised the bar, albeit unnaturally. But that will make it so much better when somebody beats their records, naturally.

Don’t sweat it. The game is still the game.
