YEAH, YEAH, YEAH … IT WAS FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO TODAY (PART 2) (VIDEO CLIP)

Forty-five years ago tonight, the Beatles made their historic first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. They performed five songs that night.

This is the second of two clips from that original CBS-TV broadcast.

The first, featuring the opening ten minutes of the show uncut (including commercials and three of the five songs) can be seen here.

Here are the last two songs they performed that night during "the second half of the show."

This clip opens up with a commercial - this one from Pillsbury.

Great moment in history. I have all 3 appearances in a documentary. It’s too bad that John’s microphone was set too low for the first show.

Ick, ick, ick. Seemed so innocent at the time, if we only knew what was coming down the pike.

It is especially apparent during “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”
Paul’s harmony vocal during the second “middle eight” is far too prominent.

I’m only 48 and I remember it vividly. It helped to be sitting between two older sisters who were screaming and arguing which one was the cutest, Paul or George.

George?! If he got a haircut he could be the “Hey Skinny” 98-pound weakling in those Charles Atlas ads in the back of the comic books!

As it turned out, while the Beatles remain known to the younger generation, they did not leave quite the impression some imagined. My 31 year old wife doesn’t even know who George Harrison was.

The sister who liked George the best was definitely in the minority. She dropped The beatles entirely when the Stones arrived and she saw her new favorite ‘cutie’ Keith Richards...

While the Fab Four were singing “I Want To Hold Your Hand”, Mick and the Boys were prancin’ to “Satisfaction”. No contest!

I had a Beatles Band complete with Beatle wigs. I played George. We won a talent contest in Midlothian, TX. We were go-o-o-od!
