Blackwell through HIS support to Steele. Dawson is the true Country Club Republican in every sense of the word. That you are unwilling to even give Steele a chance when you know nothing of how he is going to do says a lot more about you than it does Michael Steele.. and, I suspect, it is attitudes, like your’s here, that drives people away from the Republican party.

We damned well BETTER have a big tent.... because the math doesn’t add up otherwise, we cannot win with just the South, and with Barr causing McCain to lose in NC and Georgia even being close this year we are starting to lose ground there as well... people are tired of the carping and the my-way-or-highway attitudes.

Amazing how he was worshipped on this forum for 8 years, headling two inagural balls for FreeRepublic, getting over 90% of the GOP primary vote during his bid for a third term, eh? This forum must have been a big fan of "socialism" from 2000-2008 I suppose. No doubt you, as a principled conservative, boycotted FR events headlined by a "socialist"

The Fairtax must be a "socialist" nanny-state plan or else Huckabee wouldn't support it. Huck's mockery of the liberals tax the rich schemes with his "tax me more fund" (hailed on FR at the time he was governor). Obviously socialist. His longtime opposition to McCain-Feingold, calling it a disaster (while Fred Thompson was eagerly cheering on the plan)? Socialist. His outspoken support for Sarah Palin? Socialist. Calls for the Senate to vote down the Tim Geithner nomination? Socialist. Cutting taxes 92 times in Arkansas? Socialist. And Duncan Hunter must be a HUGE hard-core fan of socialism, seeing as how he personally ENDORSED Huckabee after dropping of the primary.

Yes sir, Huckabee never was a conservative. Everyone was lying about him for 8 years or just totally misled by his evil socialist agenda for a DECADE (sorta like how Bush "tricked" all those Dems into voting for the Iraq War). Really dense conservatives, took 'em 10+ years to figure out Huck's evil socialist nanny state plans. Thank God it was revealed that he was "socialist" the moment his presidential campaign got in the way of Fred Thompson's "potential" candidacy.

100% Pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, abolish the IRS, repeal McCain-Feingold, win the WOT, secure the borders, nothing remotely conservative about that platform.

Perhaps you should try DU, since their ideas about 180o degrees away from Huckabee's "liberal" plans.

Maybe you history revisionists can start claiming Sarah Palin is a "big government Clinton-loving marxist and always has been" in 2012. Who knows, she could get in the way of your favorite candidate's plans.

I was not aware of FR’s existence until 2004. But if you're telling me to go to DU then you, sir, can go screw yourself.

He has other people on this thread just as worked up without one iota of actual knowledge of how Steele is going to be... or without a brain cell to clue them in that without the NE and the West people can take their attitudes and chuck them because we can not win... and third parties are NOT the solution! They are the problem... Bob Barr cost us NC and Indiana, ACORN cost us Ohio and Florida... and Bob Barr was NOT a conservative — if the people who voted for the jerk actually listened to HIM!!!!!!!!

If you think abolishing the IRS, overturning Roe v. Wade, repealing McCain-Feingold, winning the WOT, etc., are ideas that should be “flushed”, then you should indeed head off to DU. Those are conservative ideas whether you want to admit it or not. Huckabee has stood for those ideas for years. If you don’t agree with them, then you should be out cheerleading for Hussein Obama.

Not at all! I'm sick of all this negative talk when a person hasn't even had a chance to do their job. People with attitudes like you posted here is what's destroying the Republican party and the conservative movement. No one is pure enough to please some of you.

“This is a ridiculous article.”

..and poorly thought out. To deduce that the WSJ meant Steele’s pick was a “hard move to the left” from that WSJ quote is simply incorrect.

I say we give Steele a chance. I supported him before he won. I like his 80/20 reasoning.

>> I was not aware of FR’s existence until 2004. <<

So, as a member of this forum in 2005, you vocally opposed when "socialist" Mike Huckabee was the keynote event used to promote the FR inagueral ball in Jan. 2005, right? How could you stand signing up for a forum that is promoting a "liberal" like Huckabee?

Too bad NONE of you Huckabee hating pukes "discovered" he was liberal until 2008. You credbility is ZERO. If FR had an invited an actual "liberal" RINO Governor (Schwartezenegger, Whitman, etc.) to headline an event for this forum in 2005, you better believe I would have raised HELL about it.

Not one of you hypocrites CLAIMED Huckabee was a "liberal" until the moment he ran for President. In 2005 as a sitting Governor he was rightly seen as a solid conservative. After LEAVING office, suddenly he's a "socialist"

What a joke. Go to DU to spew your garbage about how we need to reject conservative values.

I like him as well and cannot help think a few of these comments today are aimed more at his race than who he is as a Republican. His speech yesterday to the GOP Congressmen was very astute:

I haven't read his position papers or his speeches to know.

BUT -- if the Dem machine folks are behind it, that's because they are afraid, as they are of Palin.

It's called "astroturfing."

Cheers!
