010So the great Vista Do Over of 2009 is upon us. Will it increase speed, compatability, manageability, security, and connectability? Or will it be a hulking overstuffed lumbering piece of digital doggie doo?
And how many versions will there be? One-Step-Above-DOS Useless, Basic, Home, Business, Premium, Ultimate, Triple No-Backsies Ultimate, Oh My Heavenly Lord This Thing Weighs a Ton Drop-Dead Conclusive?
And will I have to click on something to give administrator-privilege permission just to shrink a browser window?
And why was it formerly known as Blackcomb and Vienna? Who thinks up these seemingly bizarre non sequiturs, then decides on Windows Digit?
All in due course
all in due course
Everything I’ve read points to a Vista do-over. 7 supposedly runs fast and light, even on old hardware (Plll). I think they see the netbook wave as a major threat. Netbook sales are through the roof, and they can barely run Vista basic. The two choices are XP or linux, and both choices are a threat to MS.

From past experience I’m betting on the latter.
Otherwise, find a Linux or BSD flavor.
HP is pissing me off also. I’ve got a 1012 laser printer that has no driver specific to Vista yet and I’m told one will most likely not be developed due to cost.
The “generic” driver has limited functionality. Guess I’ll have to live with it until I replace this 3 year old printer. Printer works excellent and I’m reluctant to throw it away just yet.
Nothin’ better than a BSOD to make one’s day.
45 minutes into a Windows Vista thread and the Microsoft Vendors haven't yet shown up with the obligatory “Windows Vista is really wonderful, you all are just too stupid to realize it” post.
Must be a record or Microsoft is having their Christmas party today
No, it is just snowing out here in Microsoft land, and that means that all of the Redmond/Bellevue/Seattle crowd panic, stay home and complain about how bad the half inch of snow is far to dangerous to venture out in.
I’ve used Vista without problems.
And there you have a pic of Windows giving the one-digit salute.
Have you managed to “run” a program from a CD? How did you do it? How long did it take to find the undocumented “feature”?

We are happy to have bought the XP. When initially deciding, we were vacillating between Vista and XP. Due to dire circumstances, I did not have the opportunity to read reviews. I could not help but notice the disproportionate number of XP’s being sold as compared to the Vista. The site I visited couldn’t keep the XP in stock, but when I’d look at the stock for Vista there were oodles of them.
We concluded that the XP would be more beneficial. Haven’t regretted the choice.
Windows 98 is faster, from the South Park movie:

Yup, that's Windows all right.
