Regarding the Wolf brand steel cased stuff made in Russia:

I think it's just fine in "communist" calibers: 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 5.45x39, 9mm Makarov.

I'm less impressed with it (and do not use it) in other calibers.

I have no experience with the brass cased "Wolf Gold Line" stuff made elsewhere in eastern Europe.

they’re up to $100 and higher here. OTOH, you can pick up a mini 14 for $350, and you can still find AR15’s all over.

The moral of the story is that the Moisin Nagant is the sort of timeless weapon that is handed down from dead troop to live troop

One of the great War Movie scenes is in the first 5 minutes of Enemy at the Gates, where a boatload of FNGs crosses the river under heavy fire, and then are told "If you don't have a rifle, pick one up - - plenty of them will be on the ground".

recoil is not that bad at all. I cleaned mine with boiling water (yup) then oiled it up and it works fine. got a few stripper clips off ebay, got a case of ammo. When I find the time (and weather’s better) I will take it to a local range and see how well it does. I have the long 91/30 and been thinking that I may go to the next gun show and get a m44 carbine version. I was steered away from these because of the muzzle blast but what the heck, it might be fun ;-)
