So I Got Booted Off Little Green Footballs...
Mazurland Blog ^ | 8/19/08 | Mazeman

I thought censorship of dissenting opinion was largely a tactic of the Left. Well apparently Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs doesn't take criticism any better than Daily Kos.

Of late, Johnson has been devoting many of his posts to an assault on Intelligent Design theory. It's certainly not my place to discern his motivation for such vehemence, or to dictate what he posts on his own website, but because of his crusade, LGF has become a more tiresome place to visit. And not just for me; many of his commenters seem equally annoyed.

So I tried to log in today to comment on a non-ID post, and I get the message "Account Blocked". I think "OK Mazur, what the hell did you write?" ...

Oh well. Its his bandwidth, his rules.

And how can you support an unverifiable notion like intelligent design? Gosh, I guess you missed out on education when you grew up.

Perhaps you can fix that by some study now. Good luck.

Its not censorship. It’s his site, not yours. You don’t have to go there if you don’t want, and he doesn’t have to let you print your views there.

I know of two topics that are verboten on LGF: Abortion and referring to muslims as anything but muslims (i.e., don’t call them muzzies, or muslimes, or anything like that: You will get an immediate smack down). But LGF is a very good site for engaging in interaction of current events, and there are some very good posters lurking there; just steer clear of those two items and you should be okay.

Charles Johnson was an admitted leftist before 9/11 and still holds many leftist positions.

Aside from that, he is a bit of a jerk too.

I never posted on LitteGreenFootballs and only read it maybe twice a year. I want nothing to do with Mr. Johnson.

My linked post shows the comment that got me in trouble. A thinly veiled complaint? Fine. A bannable offense? I didn't think so.

I agree that Johnson can do whatever he likes with his own site. But stifling such mild criticism reeks of KOS-like censorship. (I was once also banned from KOS for agreeing with Bush about something). Anyone is free to search the past LGF comments of "Mazeman" to see that I wasn't a rabble-rouser.

Personally I feel some dissent stimulates intelligent discourse. In this instance, Johnson didn't allow either. But again, that's his right.

I was banned from Lucianne.com for posting Ann Coulter columns after 9/11 (remember Ann called Lucianne Goldberg’s son something naughty - I can’t remember her exact quote). Of course they have since allowed Coulter to be posted.

Sorry that this happened to you - I can tell it’s got you upset... Perhaps rightly so. I don’t know much about LGF, or Mr. Johnson, except the occasional posts I read there - maybe once or twice a month. Maybe if one could actually sign-up to post I might’ve gone more often... Oh well, sounds like it’s not a big loss!

As others said - it’s his site, but I think respect has it’s place as well on both sides of an issue/argument.

A few years ago I was kicked off RedState.Org when I jokingly suggested that al Queda was backing the Democrat Party.

Hey RedState: F**K YOU.

I agree, but I think that he’s taking this more of a tangent than I can handle. I don’t even go there anymore because I don’t want to deal with it. Just the fact that he wants to tear something down so much, with no dissent allowed (ok it is, but I felt like it was just ridiculed or just ignored) cause me after reading 4 article of 900 comments, I couldn’t even look at it anymore. Maybe I just have a weak constitution, but I don’t want have to deal with that when I can go to another website (jihad watch, etc.) and get almost all the same information.

Its not censorship. It’s his site, not yours.

Worth repeating.

Every time a private citizen isn't given free reign of another's property when they want, how they want, for as long as they want, and in every way they want, it's increasingly tagged as "censorship."

I forgot.. I’m so sorry that happened though, especially cause it seems like you liked posting there (you wouldn’t be writing about if you didn’t). I hope that you can sort out your differences.

His loss.

I visit there occasionally. Sometimes they have an interesting article linked to; but usually its a pretty vapid site...IMO.

Some places get their content from the owners of the site - and its few that can actually sustain. Some from the discourse that occurs on the site.

Like the expression goes..."I been kicked outta better places than this!"

It seems to me that people who don’t like ID often have zero tolerance for even the mention of it. I once tangled with Instapundit over the same issue. It isn’t my fondest memory.

yeah, I am pretty ambivalent about the whole evolution thing. I firmly believe God created the world....but how He did it, not that big a deal to me. Anyway, I’ve been bored by how many anti-ID threads LGF has had recently. It just gets old. Seems like there’s enough other important stuff to focus on.

But then again, what ever floats his boat....it’s his site.

That's why I find science so boring. It's all so known and verifiable.

Scientists can't even predict tornadoes and we're supposed to believe them on the beginnings of the universe.

Different ideas and healthy debate stimulate exploration. To do otherwise is so, so, Democrat.

I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who got really tired of Charles’ crusade against ID. I used to enjoy his site, but his friendly fire got to be way too aggressive for my taste. You have to wonder about a guy who attacks people so viciously when they are allies in virtually every other way. Hard to trust a guy who craps on potential friends like that.
