Sharpton right regarding criticism of Hilton's release: You have to be right some time

On Friday, Paris Hilton, the heiress to the Hilton Hotel dynasty, was ordered back to jail by Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer. The order came hours after Hilton was suddenly released from the Los Angeles County Jail at 2 A.M. due to what L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca referred to as "medical concerns."

It was reported, during her three day period of confinement (which totaled 80 hours), Hilton audibly cried uncontrollably and constantly pushed a panic button installed in the cell for emergencies. Hilton was summoned back to court by Judge Sauer on Friday morning. Sauer not only put Hilton back in the County lockup, but he also reinstated her original 45 day sentence for violating probation related to drunk driving charges. The sentence had been reduced to 23 days before Hilton's ultimate release.

One of the first national figures to put pressure on the Los Angeles judicial system was the Rev. Al Sharpton who claimed Hilton's treatment smacked of racial inequality.

Though I disagree with Sharpton's assessment, I do believe the special treatment Hilton received had more to do with privilege than race. Michael Jackson and O.J. Simpson are perfect illustrations of my point. It is the have's versus the have not's and that's what led to Hilton's release. But thanks to Sharpton, national attention was brought to this apparent injustice, even though it may have been for the wrong reasons.

The simple fact is Paris Hilton is a victim herself. She is a victim of poor parenting and lives out a lifestyle far removed from reality.

There is a very real possibility Paris Hilton was never told "no" by her parents. Therefore, her incarceration had to be a shock of the most significant proportions to a woman who has everything money can buy--except common sense. If you don't believe me, here are some of the reasons Hilton's friends said she should be released. "She hasn't had a wax or used a moisturizer for over three days." Need I say more? There's are Americans who live within the boundaries of our nation, but they know nothing of our culture or the rules which govern it.

The sad thing is they, in all too many cases, are setting the tone for our society. Young girls strive to emulate Paris Hilton. When in past years individuals like Amelia Earhart, Madame Curie and Eleanor Roosevelt were seen as role models for young women, today young women imitate those who have little or nothing to offer our society besides a knowledge of provocative fashion and a penchant for bad behavior.

The Hilton story became even more farcical when the media pointed out the hotel heiress was depressed because of her incarceration. The truth is if Hilton were not depressed about being behind bars, it would have been a sign of true mental illness.

The real hero in this fiasco is the Judge who put his foot down and said no more to the culture of privilege which permeates our society. Sauer, 69, obviously didn't care about what the Hilton's and their vast fortune could do to his political future. For the first time, possibly in her entire life, Paris Hilton will have to pay the piper for the tune that was played when she decided to violate her probation and, once again, drive under the influence.

Let's face it. We have grown to expect special treatment of celebrities in America. This has led many to believe our judicial system is subject to money and undue influence. The jailing of Hilton is a step, though it might be a small step, towards again instilling confidence among the general public regarding the dispensation of justice in America.

For the first time, I offer kudos to the Rev. Al Sharpton. You have to be right once in a while and, in the case of Paris Hilton, Sharpton definitely hit the mark.

Sorry. . .do not agree; inasmuch as do not see this in any way a 'racism'. . .Al's favorite word - but rather just a bad case 'celebrityitus'; and the favortism- the 'considerations' - that goes with it.

Al's outrage over the Justice - or rather, lack thereof - seems more than over the top.

Is it alzheimer's; or, Al's own celebrity aggogance (and color for that matter. . .) that innoculated him from 'real Justice' by his again - self-serving - initiatives during the totally fraudulent, Tawana Brawley case?

Despite Sharpton's color. . .he is nonetheless, totally transparent here. (Would like to see/hear again; this time on 'YouTube' some of Al's fiery sermons. . .where racism and dogma; cannot be separated.) There was one; floating around last year or year before; think on Drudge maybe; a clip showed up. . .but not for long.

I don’t give a rat’s tail what happens to P.H. I can’t recall any time when I’ve been more disgusted with television. I AM SICK TO DEATH OF HEARING HER NAME. There must be something more important going on in the world. What in the world are these television reporters thinking? It’s enough to gag a maggot.

have to agree with you here. . .was sick of this last week; and looks like it going to lead; for the entire weekend; and God knows; how long after that. I guess until she is home. . .her diary is published. . .ad nauseum.

And for sure; there are more important things. Ignored - at our peril.

I agree. She should NOT get preferential treatment but you didn't hear him say to send OJ(murderer) to jail or when he campaigned for Tookie Williams(murderer) stay of execution . If he voiced his opinion about her getting preferential treatment, he should have said OJ too got treated better than the average Joe would have too. Amazing how he only sees what he wants to see.

I think the Judge has a personal problem.
Compare the “crimes’ and treatment of Paris Hilton to William J. Jefferson (D-La.) and Cynthia McKinny, then repeat if you will, with a straight face, all this
“white favoritism” BS.

Did not Fat @ss All Sharpton incite, or help to incite The Crown Heights Riot?

Did he ever serve time for that crime?
An innocent man is dead because of this demagogue!

Why is Sharpton still alive?
Did not an avenger almost kill that lard A$$ ?
