Asus Technology announced that the ASUS TeleSky telecom adaptor will now be included in the package of the M2N/TeleSky and P5B/TeleSky motherboards.

The TeleSky telecom adaptor converts ordinary house phones into multi-functional Skype phones. It is a highly integrated application for traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and Skype VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) calls. The Skype VoIP system enables users to make free calls online or to dial low-cost calls to external landline and mobile phone numbers using SkypeOut.

With one jack connected to the house phone and the other linked to the ground telephone line, the TeleSky can switch the house phone connection between PSTN and VoIP networks. Users can also use the house phone to operate Skype functions, including SkypeIn, SkypeOut, Skype Conference, call waiting, speed-dial, and 3-way telephoning. The TeleSkyÔ supports both corded and cordless telephones.

The ASUS TeleSky is now available with two ASUS motherboards, the M2N/TeleSky and the P5B/TeleSky. Purchase either one now to receive 60 SkypeOut minutes as well. This offer will only be available for a limited time and quantity.

I don't think Skype needs a primer. It is very simple. The explanations on the Skype website are simple and clear, hard as that is to believe.

I tried it myself, before I swiched to Vonage. Skype is like using a prepaid telephone card, while Vonage has the traditional telephone company services, and a monthly fee.

The charges for Skypeout, which is the service for calling any landline telephone, ran me about $.04 per minute, pre-paid. The service I buy from Vonage is $18.50 per month, with tax.

Both are VOIP.

Yes it is. Just be sure to use it on a secure network. They went to VOIP where I used to work, within an hour of it going live I was intercepting the data, recording, and playing back to management phone conversations I got 'off the wire' using a laptop.

Yes, there's no question that VOIP is insecure. I never discuss anything sensitive on my telephone since I went with a VOIP phone. That's what encrypted email is for.

VOIP is still no less secure than traditional PSTN phone use. There is only a difference in the way of exploiting it.

Had a good experience using SKYPE to speak to someone in a South American backwater -- both of us had it installed on our computers and the sound quality was quite good.

Trying to add video to the call r e a l l y slowed things down, tho.
