AMMAN (AFP) - A Jordanian woman has hacked her 26-year-old daughter to death in her sleep with an axe for giving birth out of wedlock, the Jordan Times reported.
The 69-year-old mother and another daughter turned themselves in to police after Saturday's killing, claiming they had acted to cleanse the "family honour", the paper said, quoting official sources on Sunday.
They were charged with premeditated murder, the sources said.

I love you too, Cal. Looks like I'm not the only one wondering about that. Perhaps a real reporter would have asked the same question. Was this a double homicide and we're getting the less gruesome of the two killings? Is this a case of deliberate underreporting by the media? That would be a topic of interest. What DOES happen to such an offspring in that culture? Seems like we should trade monikers, eh?
I also wonder what happened to the baby. And you are right, the reporter should have gave us more information.

What did you mean by that? Maybe I misunderstood?
Seriously, what does happen to the child of a liaison that warrants an honor killing? We have examples from lots of other cultures where such children are shunned. The first example coming to mind is from the M*A*S*H series, with Korean-American children being ostracized much to Hawkeye's disdain (and, quite frankly, mine too). But in a culture where the value of life is nil and killing comes so easily, is there an even worse fate awaiting such children? It may well be that this child will be raised to be a suicide bomber in order to atone for the sin of being born - that is, if they haven't already killed it. I really do wonder why the reporter said nothing and I expect the worst.
