A Prayer Request

I am having some problems at work. I am seeking spiritual guidance and assistance in this matter.

I am currently doing seasonal work at an amusement park, working at a concession stand. A co-worker, Leah, has been getting on my nerves and those of another who works at the same place as I, Joel.

What she has been doing is repeatedly getting into tasks that are currently being done by myself or Joel. To put it in the Reader's Digest Condensed way, while there are two people there, one could run register and drinks and the other could run the fryer. Unfortunately, she tries to run both even with me being there.

To be more specific, even though me and Joel have napkins sitting a certain way so we can have an easier time to grab them for customers, she always turns them over. I asked her why she does this, and she responded, "What does it matter how they are set up?" If it did not matter, why did you turn them over?

We have small containers for dipping sauces for chicken fingers and nacho cheese sauce for when it is requested on the side. Yesterday, I had been filling containers with nacho cheese. I wanted four in the storage compartment of the dispenser. Suddenly, two were sold and I had an uneven number of containers. I moved away to get some more containers and Leah promptly moved in. Now, enough cheese comes out of each cycle to fill two containers. I only had one container on the table. Despite the fact Leah knows full well how much cheese comes out, guess what she did?

When I told her as she was doing it, "There's only one container there," she replied, "Don't yell at me!"

But wait! It gets better! She then actually tells me to get additional containers so she can empty the cheese bag and change it!

So later, in the middle of a mini-rush, she is running the register and I the fryer, but she once again inserts herself and begins to move things around. I turn and look at her and say, "I can do this." And she says, again, "Don't yell at me!"

Would you believe sometime after that my boss Heidi comes in and says a customer heard this exchange and complained to her about it and so I am in the doghouse?

I pray for a peaceful, satisfying end to this. But I swear to you I did not do anything wrong!

If you are a male, I'd find another job, quick. If you are a female you might stand a chance. It would be good if the boss, Heidi, could have to work with this woman. Maybe you could suddenly get sick and have to get Heidi to work with her for a few hours at a really busy time. It really sounds like you are a team player and you and your coworker don't mesh. Try to keep personalities out of it, keep a smile on your face and your mouth shut in the meantime. It's entirely possible things might change (but if you're a male, please please please find another job and get out of there).

In any event, I will pray for your peaceful and happy work experience. Try to think up a good affirmation that you can repeat to yourself if you continue to work with this person and in this business, which can be extremely stressful in the best of times. How about this for an affirmation: Harmony and peace, love and joy, surround me and indwell me. I am safe and secure. (from one of Louise Hay's books)

If you can't get along with a co-worker either look for a different job or ask your boss to transfer you to another location in the park.

Or, do what the rest of us do, suck it up and realize that life stinks and no job is perfect.

Boy, you really do not need to be so hostile.

Truth is, I have been patient and silent on the issue, but my patience is not infinite.

And when you consider it is bearing on another co-worker as well, one does have to ask if silence is really golden.

I'm not the least bit hostile. What you call "hostile" I call "practical."

Sometimes that's hard to hear. But it's the way the world works. I didn't write the rules.

You should spell my name with "houmatt" not "houmat". There is a difference.

Geez, you can't get along with a silly chick on a summer job? Just be grateful you don't have a real job, especially one that requires skills.
