That's quite an interesting view of represenative democracy you have there. Might I also point out that the topic of the thread was about Laura Bush and statements she recently made to the media that contradicted what GWB said and did during his 2004 campaign.

Snugs view was a narrowly stated one...you broadened it to call it her view of representative democracy. Her point was that he stated his positions when he ran and that to go beyond that and demand he toe your every line because you voted for him is not fair.

In the case of Laura, even though she has come off as less than enthusiastically supportive of some of his socially conservative positions (said guardedly, because she's so diplomatic its hard to tell), Laura is not the President and she will not call the shots on socially conservative positions he has taken.

I would remind everyone who thinks her words rule the day as if the President himself said them that they are very mistaken.

My view of representative democracy is that the person implements the policies that they put forward at the election and based on those policies you voted for them. Therefore they are representing you by implementing their policies.

Yes the topic of the thread is about Laura Bush and her statements but I was answering you when you were saying

That clearly shows you feel he owes you something for your vote and I am pointing out he does not.

You probably owe him a great deal though for keeping you and your family safe.
