Trojan Horse? [Murtha medal issue a trap]
Mudville Gazette ^ | Jan 14th, 2006 | Greyhawk

Posted on 01/14/2006 11:27:23 AM PST by Fenris6

"Former representative Don Bailey (D-Pa.) has apparently broken ranks and attacked the war record of fellow Democrat John Murtha"

"...The story was picked up by CNS, a conservative web site. In their report they also cited excerpts from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 2002, and several quotes from political opponents in the 1990s that raised questions regarding Murtha's record."

"...But the quote used above comes from a Washington Post article that confirms many of the accusations in the CNS story. But before Murtha's political opponents begin jumping for joy, they had best take a close look at how the Post is spinning the story of blue on blue warfare:..."

"Beware of Greeks bearing gifts, they say. The Post dutifully notes the actual source of the accusations (Bailey) a few paragraphs into the piece, but leaves no doubt where this story is headed: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said, "The Swift Boat-like attacks on an American hero, Congressman Jack Murtha, are despicable and have no place in politics."

"Let me be clear: attacks on Murtha's Vietnam record are pointless. Murtha's latest statements against the success of US troops in Iraq speak for themselves; his current behavior renders his past insignificant. Democrats, grown tired of waiting for an attack on Murtha's war record from the Right, have created their own. He's painted as a victim now - of "right wing chickenhawk" contempt for real war heroes. But those serious about standing up to the current John Murtha would be well advised to let his fellow Democrats and the mainstream media keep this war "unilateral".

"Ditto. And even if there is truth behind it, it's political suicide for us to pursue this. Murtha is an older man and isn't running for higher office and we should just leave him alone.

He's making his legacy by giving the jihadists hope and soldiers like the guy who stood up to him last week at a public forum does more for our side than anything we could ever do to him, imo."

Peach, and I'm trying to see your point. I would counter that when you say it's political suicide and then follow with Murtha making his legacy by giving the jihadists hope, I must state I feel it's not just political suicide at risk here. We're talking about our military's suicide more at risk precisely by your point about giving the jihadists hope.

That said, are you advocating that the need for 'republicans' to remain silent is greater than the need to protect our troops? Honest question. No sarcasm. If the answer is yes...why? I ask, because this takes me right back to the 'silent majority' that did as much damage if not more, to our troops, than the anti-war left in the 60's. I know that if you've got a point, it's a pretty good one, I just don't get it in this situation.

Keep in mind that the "Move On FReepers" are NOT
representative of TRUE conservatives.

TRUE conservatives, whether they are Independents, Republicans or Democrats (like Zell Miller etc)
always put the troops 1st and foremost.

The "Move On FReepers" put politics 1st, then money,
and then the troops.

What will be gained is that he will be prevented from speaking as the sole source of expertise in the field of military endevour as well as The expert on the moral of our troops there.

That is afterall how he is being portrayed in the press, The lone voice of reason as well as the expert on everything.

Based upon a sole Marine Reservist's tour in Viet Nam, better braver men then him are being ignored and we are being told to do nothing, to say nothing, to relax and wait for what might happen or for his fifteen minutes of fame to evaporate.

If his awards are bogus, then his entire congressional career has been based upon a fraud unchallenged until now and if it remains unchallenged then he will be re-elected yet again and free to continue his lies about the war.

The "Move On" folks -- aren't still carrying the memories and obligations to fallen brothers that many of us are still dealing with......

The "Move On" folks -- don't have brother's names on that cold stone Wall on the Mall....

The "Move On" folks -- don't have any vested interest in exposing and destroying the lying traitorous bastards of OUR era....

Yes, I'll "Move On" just as soon at the battle is over, and the bastards are dead or dishonored and we're pissing on their graves...

The country STILL owes the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth - an unpayable debt....
THEY were singularly responsible for preventing Kerry from becoming President....
Thank GOD, they were not ready to "Move On"..

Folks - there are STILL a lot of enemies out there that DESERVE our attention -- and we OWE it to the dead that can not speak for themselves or salvage their reputations which these traitorous cowards besmirched..

I can understand someone who has never served being uncomfortable with calling someone's service into question. I have those inclinations as well. But when numerous vets that I admire and respect do so, I know that it is the right thing to do.

Trap? Maybe.

Still, many of us are chomping at the bit to thoroughly rebuke these hypocrites.

Are they setting us up?

We only have the best interests of our country and posterity to be concerned about.

Screw them and their traps, they are not smart enough, and they demonstrate their incompetence regularly.

"John Glenn was a Hell of a Marine"

John Glenn is an "ex-Marine" who will be remembered as Bill Clinton's biggest cheerleader.

We had a troll last night with the handle of Saberrattler going on about how Murtha deserves respect because 'he was in combat, he KNOWS'.
My response was that Murtha is purposefully aiding the enemy and that anyone who wore a uniform knows better than to spout enemy propaganda.

Saberrattler has been banned.
But the current DNC/troll talking point is that people who served in uniform and currently try to demoralise the troops deserve our 'respect' because they 'know'.
So, heads up.

One more Tonk if I may

The "Move On" folks -- who have never had to write a letter home to a waiting wife, or mother, even in even in times of peace, telling them as them as their son's or husband's Commanding Officer why you are sending him home, not safe and sound to hug and kiss, but in an aluminum box. Those who have written these letters know the pain involved writing each one; those who haven't can never know.

Just so everyone knows, they don't need us to entrap republicans into their plots and entanglements...

They can always lie to a subservant press and say we did whatever they want to say we did.

and of course we'll be barely able to disprove whatever they say, so Let's give them what they want.

Wanting something and getting what you want doesn't always work out the way you plan.

You have a point about how vocal he's been in giving the jihadists some hope.
