The below was faxed to Pennsylvania's John Murtha by a disability retired Vietnam vet (me) who has noticed that the Viet Vets who have done REALLY WELL in politics since the Vietnam War are the ones who sucked up to the same liberalism which defeated the Vietnam War effort ... John Murtha, John Kerrey, Bob Kerry, John McCain, Max Cleland . . . and more lately, Marine Iraq veteran Paul Hackett from Ohio who called President Bush an "S.O.B." He'll be running for the Ohio Congress as a John Kerrey anti-war "hero," Lord unwilling.

Fax sent in CAPS

DEAR REPRESENTATIVE JOHN MURTHA;

I ALSO AM A FORMER MARINE WHO SERVED IN VIETNAM FOR 16 MONTHS, BUT BEFORE MY SECOND TOUR OF DUTY ENDED, I WAS MEDEVACED OUT OF COUNTRY AND EVENTUALLY DISABILITY RETIRED - OVER 30 YEARS AGO.

IF THE TRUTH BE KNOWN, SIR, IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS THAT THE IRAQ WAR IS GOING A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER THAN NAM EVER DID - EVEN WITH THE CONSTANT ONSLAUGHT OF DISCOURAGEMENT BY A SUBVERSIVE, UNDERMINING MEDIA AND THE BARRAGE OF CRITICISM BY THE POLITICALLY SELFISH LIB DEMOCRATS.

MAY IT ALSO BE KNOWN THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER BATTLE WOUNDED, HIGHLY DECORATED, WELL HONORED WAR HERO IN AMERICAN HISTORY (NO, NOT JOHN KERREY) WHO WAS WOUNDED WHILE FIGHTING FOR THE UNITED STATES - BEFORE HE 'RETROGRADED TO THE REAR' AND JOINED THE BRITISH, OUR ENEMIES AT THE TIME: BENEDICT ARNOLD.

HE THOUGHT FOR SURE THAT THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR WAS A MISTAKE AND, LIKE YOURSELF, WOULD HAVE ENJOYED AN IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWAL OF THE JUST-BORN UNITED STATES FROM THE WAR. GIVE PEACE (FOR IRAQ) A CHANCE.

Again: I will say one thing, the left has exposed a soft underbelly that should be exploited at all costs. The "former military men" now gone daft or senile are put up as some shining beacon of patriotism for the left, are but one thing.

Useful Idiots.

Jimmy Carter was a career navy man, John Kerry was an army fraud, Colin Powell had his nut$ removed by bureaucrats working 24/7 against him.

We have to wake up and call a turncoat a turncoat and rub the lefts' face in it for a while. Stop giving them the ammo to beat us up with, and realize that no military man since WWII worth his honor would go anywhere near modern politics.

A "mili-politician" is merely a civilian, and to think anything more than that dishonors the rest of the armed forces.

Case corrected:

If the truth be known, sir, it should be obvious that the Iraq war is going a thousand times better than Nam ever did - even with the constant onslaught of discouragement by a subversive, undermining media and the barrage of criticism by the politically selfish lib democrats.

He thought for sure that the revolutionary war was a mistake and, like yourself, would have enjoyed an immediate withdrawal of the just-born United States from the war. Give peace (for Iraq) a chance.

Thank you for your service and for keeping me safe. I appreciate your sacrifice.

I would also suggest sending Murtha a white feather.

I'm a bit off topic here but you reminded me of it.

Several moths back Michael Medved was taking his usual liberal nutjob calls. The liberals were claiming that the Vietnam war had destroyed the lives of virtually everyone who served there.

Medved started digging up stats on Vietnam vets. The first thing he did was point to the senate and house as examples of veterans success stories. He read stats that showed that Vietnam vets had a lower alcohol abuse rate, a lower drug abuse rate, a lower suicide rate, a lower rate of homelessness, etc etc etc than the national average.

I grew up believing those misconceptions because we've been saturated with them. Hollywood has inundated us with visons of misfit vets who couldn't fit into society. The Ward Churchills of the world feed their students that same line.

A few years back I was at my grandfathers funeral and the truth hit me like a truck. I looked around and realized that almost every successful man at that funeral was a veteran. Some were WWII vets who had served with my grandfather, some were Korean war vets and those my uncles age were Vietnam war vets.

I asked my father in law (who served in Vietnam and is now a doctor) about success and service. He told me that the first couple of years after returning from Vietnam was rough on some guys but most managed to pick themselves and go on with their lives and mostly thrive.

I know that my life would have been very different if I had entered the service. On the other hand if my life hadn't been such a mess I probably wouldn't have met my wife.

Yep, Benedict Arnold was a bona fide American war hero, severely wounded in action.

Before he went over to the dark side.

(But I think Murtha's just suffering from dementia. His incoherent paranoid ramblings are not coming from a stable mind.)
