Les émeutiers prennent à une église

posted by Joe N. @ 3:16 PM

An eyewitness report which appears to be corroborated by commenters from the same town:

Afro-Moslems rioters attack a Protestant church.

«Tonight the Protestant church in Meulan was attacked. The roof is completely destroyed. I do not yet know if the interior is completely destroyed or not. You can’t smoke in a mosque, but trashing a church is less serious

French radio reports a direct confrontation with riot police in Toulouse charging into a group of 50 rioters who were throwing rocks and molotov cocktails. A curfew should be announced shortly and Sarkozy will be in the city later tonight. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: The rioters were out in force as a direct challenge to police just before the announced visit of Sarkozy to the area, hit hard by violence during the past few days. A dozen cars were torched.

Why not have a curfew that begins when it gets dark? Too severe?

Hmmm . . . I wonder what sort of Protestant church it is.

If it is one of the remaining Huguenot churches it is almost certainly an historical landmark.

I wonder what France's most prominent Protestant Lionel Jospin has to say about this.

"You can’t smoke in a mosque, but trashing a church is less serious.."

In other words, smoking in a church doesnt justify decapitation?

I thought these folks were angry at the establishment. And if that's the case, exactly what are they doing burning Protestant churches, a far cry from the establishment.

But of course, this has nothing to do with Islam.

I doubt whether they care a bit if the Church is Protestant or Catholic. If it's a church of any kind--even Unitarian Universalist--it's ripe for burning. For that matter a synagogue or a Buddhist temple would do just as well.

I'm sure the fueligans will leave a lot of churches standing. They need places to take sanctuary, like the terrorists did in 2002 in the Church of the Holy Nativity in Bethlehem.

What would you say the USA should do to prevent a similiar sitution from ever occurring here?

"The blackout by the French media is unbelievable." You must not live in the US because here media black outs are commonplace.

French MSM covers up what is, in fact, a pogrom .

"If you think that French media are downplaying the extent of the actual violence and damage, you are right. Quite a bit of hard news is not being reported both by design and by the circumstances on the ground. State TV has already decided to stop repeating the number of cars burned every day and film crews (particularly white French film crews) are being chased from the suburbs after having their vehicles and equipment torched. The only journalists currently operating freely and without armed escort are from Algerian newspapers (El Watan has been cited as an example). "

*snip*

"The Socialist Mayor of Noisy le Grand, speaking on France Culture radio yesterday morning claimed that in his city women were dragged from their cars by their hair and, for all intense and purposes, stoned by rampaging youths (il a employé le terme "quasi lapidées" en fwançais). He also reported that molotov cocktails were thrown into people's homes. He then asked the Army to intervene. The host, somewhat shocked that a Socialist mayor would use such language on a live State radio broadcast, stammered for a few seconds. The reports have since slipped into a French media memory hole."

Like I said, it is done both here and abroad. The French press chooses to under report the riots and US media chooses to exaggerate the chaos in NO. Heck, both the US media and the French media share agendas on many issues including. Just look at the reporting on Iraq. It is hard to find many positive reports on Iraq on the nightly news. If Bush was blowing up churches maybe the press would be more favorable.
