Repent America
Harry's Soapbox ^ | Friday, September 02, 2005 | DirtyHarryY2K

There's more than devastating destruction in the wake of hurricane Katrina that roared ashore on the gulf coast, the controversial comments made by some are having a negative effect and creating collateral damage as well.

For example, in his "puff piece" (pun intended) titled “For They That Sow the Wind Shall Reap the Whirlwind” on HuffingtonPost.com Its Robert F. Kennedy Jr's ludicrous opinion that hurricane Katrina is a direct result of The Bush administration's and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour's neglect concerning global warming. At one point Kennedy makes a reference to Pat Robertson's 1998 comment suggesting that hurricanes were likely to hit communities that offended God.

Now it comes to light as reported in a World Net Daily article that Michael Marcavage of Repent America Can be credited with this statement-

"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city,"

::::Shakes head in disbelief and frowns::::

Marcavage was one of the five Philadelphia Christians arrested last year for protesting at a homosexual event. The charges eventually were tossed out.

Now I'm not a well educated theologian, however I've read the bible and as a Christian it puzzles me no end how as Christians, (correct me if I'm wrong) these statements can be Biblically justified. And I suggest they read Genesis 9

I think we should stick to calling sinners to repentance and leave the Wrath/punishment end of the business to the man upstairs! Otherwise, we as Christians will be seen as Fred "God Hates Fags" Phelps types, and nobody (for obvious reasons) will take any of us seriously.

Please pray for the victims of this storm.

Please pray for the victims of this storm.

Pray that they'll repent. ;)

No, really. It seems that one of life's ironies is that the innocent often suffer right alongside the guilty, just like the guilty prosper right along with the blessed. Gives the innocent a reason to pray for the guilty.

And certainly the fool always suffers.

Christians like this are convinced that they are better in God's eyes than the homosexuals, and they're gloating about it. In other words, they've got it all wrong.

"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city,"

Anyone who believes that is ready to convert to Islam. They have already crossed to first brige out of Christianity.

I'm not much of a student of the Bible, but I don't believe that God causes natural calamities nor targets cities.

I do, however, believe that God is extremely interested in how each person conducts himself in the face of calamity.

I wonder how He feels about those who take smug satisfaction in the miser of others...in His name.

I can't really, in seriousness, believe this. While I rule nothing out in regard to what Marcasavage is saying, I think it's just another thing to wonder. Like a moral of a story so to speak. I do believe however, that liberal government, and socialism, is deadly! NO is rampant with it!

Thanks DH. I was very upset by Marcavage comments, which were read and discussed by Michael Medved over the air. Though I thought the arrest which you refer to above and the subsequent charges against him were flat out wrong, I did not approve of what he did (though he had a right to do it).

His tactics and many of his comments will send people running away from Christians and conservatives, rather than attracting people to us and are most destructive to the conservative cause.

You know I defended Marcavage here on the FR when few would. I believe he's right to call the homosexuals to repentance and protest against gay shame parades and abortion. But making statments like this only hurts himself and our cause.

Goody. Links.

I will get back to my normal self (whatever that is) very soon.

I haven't checked my regular email since yesterday - I guess I'll brave it tonight. This whole thing - all the different things - are not bringing out my best side. It's bringing out the hermitudinousness.

:-}

We had a conversation about this before. While his arrest and subsequent charging was wrong, I don't like his tactics (he should protest OUTSIDE events) though I defend his right to use them, OR his calling people to REPENTANCE using the particular rhetoric that he chooses. He sounds like many street preachers who most, including my self, perceive as crazy.

None of his tactics and many of his comments, including his latest about the NO hurricane, are good for the conservatism. We don't need leaders like him in the movement. They cause far more harm than good.

While there is some truth, that NO indeed does indulge in "lewd, perverted behavior", (Mardi gras and such), and such, NO sane person, can look at the devastation and say," GOD did that, and they all deserve what they are getting". BULL$h1T!! . An awful lot of decent people in N.O. MISS and AL, are suffering due to this, and to say "you got what you deserved, at a time like this, is DEPLORABLE!!. And YES-- it DOES make Christians out to look like, hateful, heartless, greedy jerks, that like seeing others suffer, and you just KNOW, that the DUmmies and their MSM friends, will make SURE that this is portrayed as the words of "mainstream" Christians", and NOT the KOOK fringe.

In many ways, this is as bad, or worse, than the other sides" Bush is to blame, for ALL of this".

Not necessarily. Many Christians calling for such are keenly aware of their own clay feet. They just also know from personal experience that redemption, hope, help, support, protection from God must or will only follow a repentant heart and actions accordingly.

Certainly the last part of your post is true.

However, throughout the Old Testament, God DID target evil cities. You HAVE heard of Sodom and Gomorrah, haven't you?

I think your assumptions are largely wrong in most cases.

I don't know anyone locally taking ANY smug satisfaction in ANYONE'S suffering.

I have known people who would. But I don't know anyone locally at present.

Calling a spade a spade in terms of God's priorities and judgment does not at all equate to taking smug satisfaction in anyone's suffering AT ALL.
