[BitPig] When Black Friday Comes

When Black Friday Comes

Recently, a Left/Liberal Internet acquaintance and I got into an interesting discussion of opinion polling as it relates to the upcoming U.S. presidential election. After posting competing poll results for a while, I got tired of the exchange and simply wrote “The only poll that counts is the one the Electors hold in December”. (For those that don't know, the President of the United States is elected by an Electoral College, not by direct popular vote.) What I meant by this was simply that opinion polls (and other efforts at prognostication — editorial opinions, etc.) are mostly irrelevant as far as predicting election results go; the spectre of a grinning Harry Truman holding a newspaper over his head haunts any such attempt.

Yet the exchange brought up an interesting thought. Whatever the polls may say, somebody is going to win the November election; what will be the reaction of people like my acquaintaince if the unthinkable (to them) happens and President Bush is re-elected? What will the True Believers of the American Left do when Black Friday comes?

The possible responses are few. Will we see Jonestown-style mass suicides in Greenwich Village and San Francisco as the prospect of Four More Years becomes reality? Will there be a mass hajj to France and/or Ontario led by Mecca al-Moor and Co.? Or will the DemoParty simply self-destruct in a fireball of recriminations, fingerpointing, and "I-told-you-so", to be suceeded by a group of splinter parties catering to the various warring groups?

(I leave out the blood-in-the-streets option; as we all know, Left/Liberals are far too devoted to peace and luuuuuv to ever dream of inciting public violence, such as beating a cop into a coma in New York, or rioting and wrecking things in Seattle, or such.)

If by some chance the president loses the election, I'll be disappointed, but that's about all. John F. Kerry is a pompous, dishonest doofus, but he's not the Antichrist; life will go on. The nation survived four years of The Great Appeaser (Jimmy Carter) and eight of The Dope From Hope (Bill Clinton) — four years of Old Purple Heart won't do us in.

There isn't a poll in the world that can predict what happens if Senator Kerry loses, but I'm genuinely curious. If you are a supporter of the Kerry cause, what will your reaction be if he comes up second in the only poll that counts?

BLACK FRIDAY

When Black Friday comes
I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men when they
Dive from the fourteenth floor

When Black Friday comes
I'll collect everything I'm owed
And before my friends find out
I'll be on the road

When Black Friday falls you know it's got to be
Don't let it fall on me

When Black Friday comes
I'll fly down to Muswellbrook
Gonna strike all the big red words
From my little black book

Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do but feed
All the kangaroos

When Black Friday comes I'll be on that hill
You know I will

When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it 'til
I satisfy my soul

Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll

When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna stake my claim
I'll guess I'll change my name

I don't know man, a Kerry President would appoint the next several USSC judges, and affect us all for the next 50 years.

He could start issuing executive orders as fast as he goes through sliming vets. He could get a WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE killed for his shear incompetence. I'll be more than dissapointed if Bush loses... You should be too.

If Bush receives a mandate from the Electorate, the deep-fried libs won't really be in a position to say or do much.

After the election -- after all the recounts -- after all the court challenges to all the recounts -- after all the appeals of the appeals of all the court decisions on all the recounts -- if the Democrats still manage to lose this one, look for them to start impeachment proceedings no later than March 2005.

I'm guessing it'll either be over the Valeria Plame business, or more likely ex-CIA director and lifelong Democratic party hack George Tenet will appear on Nightline and confess that he cooked the pre-war Iraqi WMD evidence on direct personal orders from President Bush.

Kid Charlemagne, currently down in New Orleans chasing the dragon, is looking at the Weather Channel and nervously saying to himself “Is there has in the car? Yes, there’s gas in the car.”

The Cuervo Gold, the fine Columbian make tonight a wonderful thing. I'll say it again, America: take me along when you slide on down.

the worst thing to happen (to me personally) if Kerry steals the election is that his signature will be on my retirement papers from the Army.

I would be so proud to display my certificate with W's signature, but have an inkling I will be tucking it in a desk drawer if JF'nK signs it ...

Hey, man, you should BE so lucky. Billy Jeff Clintoon signed mine. At my retirement ceremony, when my commander presented it to me, I burst out laughing. I know one should keep their military bearing, but that was just too much! BTW, everyone joined me in the laugh!
