An Illinois man is facing two felony firearms charges after accidentally shooting himself in his sleep while dreaming about a home invasion.
Mark Dicara, 62, mistakenly believed a burglar was breaking into his home after he dozed off on the night of April 10.
While dreaming he was fending off a criminal, he grabbed his .357 Magnum revolver and fired a shot into the darkness, only to wake himself up after inadvertently shooting himself in the leg.
Dicara was rushed to hospital when police found him losing a 'significant amount of blood', and investigators would later discover he used the revolver without a state-mandated Firearm Owners Identification Card
An investigation into the shooting found that when Dicara discharged the gun, the bullet went through his leg before lodging in his bedding.
After deputies found Dicara gushing blood from the wound, they applied a tourniquet to his led and sent him to a local hospital for treatment.
No one else was harmed, and authorities quickly established that no home invasion had ever occurred in the home.
It was concluded that Dicara violated Illinois state firearms law as while he previously owned an identification card, it had been revoked.
Officials have not confirmed the reasons his license was revoked, or when it occurred.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Dicara is a semi-retired attorney licensed to practice law in Illinois and Wisconsin

Some people truly are Accident Prone.
Most have been that way as long as they can remember.
That story is so goofy, he may have thought about making something up that sounded more believable and less embarrassing.
I’ve had home invasion dreams before, not fun, sure glad to wake up and realize it was just a dream.
Well, shooting your self with malice and forethought should be a crime. You can’t just go around sleeping with people, even yourself and expect to walk off Scott free. Stupidicidel. Is what it is.
He’s had the opportunity to extricate himself from Prickster’s state.
Thank god he didn’t have an AR-14.
I’m thinking the same - made up the story.
Illinois? How many weekend shooters in Chicago never face charges?
It is abundantly clear that if he had a FOID card he never would have shot himself in the leg while dreaming.
Democrats didn’t make these rules up for nothing!
You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.
That Ambien is a hell of a drug.
He should sue himself for the injury.
Another idea: what if some DC types get offed and the shooter says “I was sleepwalking after watching so much hostile political talk on TV all day. It’s not my fault.”
Rodney Dangerfield said “I went to an expensive shrink. He finally told me I have a split personality. Two different people inside. He gave me a big bill for his diagnosis. I told him here’s half. Get the rest from the other guy.”
This man might be telling the truth. I don’t doubt his story because I once witnessed someone (ex) fight in his sleep with an invisible intruder. He woke up while fighting and asked where the man who broke in went. There was no man who broke in.
bureaucracy — the losers’ reason for living
Welp...
...I’d vote to acquit.
😆
I can’t actually hear him saying that!
I was lucky. I dreamed I ate a marshmallow but it turn out it was my pillow....
