Bill Maher predicts Republicans will 'steal' the marijuana legalization debate and make it about freedom because Democrats 'are obsessed with slipping racial equity law into legislation'

Bill Maher has argued Republicans could easily 'steal' the issue of federal marijuana legalization by making it an issue about freedom after Democrats inserted 'too much stuff' about racial 'equity' in the House-passed measure aimed to decriminalize pot.

The comedian, argued Friday night that legalization of marijuana swings in the favor of Republicans and is 'something we ought to do.'

'Republicans are gonna steal the issue. I think eventually,' Maher told former Attorney General Eric Holder after being asked why President Joe Biden hadn't yet pushed for federal legalization of pot. 'I mean, it could be one of those freedom issues.'

He noted how Republicans opposed the marijuana legislation passed by the House in April because of its language surrounding racial equity.

'Now I understand the impetus to want to, like, for example, if you're gonna have new businesses that are legal in the marijuana field, yeah, they probably should go to the people who suffered the most during the drug war,' Maher said. 'Republicans, of course, are saying this

Maher alleged that although Republicans may support legalizing pot, they aren't going to endorse legislation riddled with racial undertones.

'What do you want, half a loaf? If they said okay, no equity, is it better to have the law passed or changed or is it better to hold out for equity?

Maher also joked the GOP could get on board with the federal legalization of marijuana because some Republicans are directly tied to the business, such as former House Speaker John Boehner who is currently on the board of the cannabis company Acreage Holdings.

'I mean, someone like John Boehner works for a marijuana company now,' Maher argued. 'And, of course, Republicans smoke lots of pot too.'

Holder replied: 'Not enough. They need to mellow out just a little more

Equity is just a code-word for stealing from whites to give to undeserving blacks. All coming from white liberal elitists and black democrats. Have you ever noticed that nothing good for the country EVER comes from black democrats?

California allows people to grow up to 6 plants for personal use.

Just take away the limit, have people be able to grow what they please, you knock out the profit for the criminal element, and all tax revenues of the governmental criminals.

I am so sick of these Demons (I think I’m going to stop with the cutesy phrase “Demonrats” and just call them “Demons” from now on). Literally everything has got to be about race with them. They have got to push a divide on literally everything.

Republicans should - legalization is a liberty issue and a winning issue. They’re held back by the Reefer Madness fringe in their base.

Yes, Republicans should support legalizing marijuana. Freedom is freedom.

But:

They should avoid stupid pronouncements, like saying the term “marijuana” is racist but “cannabis” is not. (The state of Washington did this.)

There shouldn’t be any preferences (in business licenses or the like) for people whose skin color happens to be the same as some other people who were arrested for weed back in the day.

Also, this is a Tenth Amendment issue. The Federal government has no business banning marijuana or promoting it. It’s a matter for the states.

In Virginia, there was some ridiculous program that Republicans just got rid of on MJ. With the decriminalization of it, dims set up a program to basically defund the police in high crime, minority areas. So legalize it, then make poor minority areas rife with violent crime, even worse. How stupid.

Even though Bill sometimes sounds as though he “gets it” it still has not registered in his confused mind just what a conservative is really like.

Perhaps he will see the truth some day.

I think that defanging of the police is happening everywhere the Dems are in charge. Most places don’t have actual defunding, but they’re prohibiting the police from actually chasing or arresting most violators. (This isn’t specifically for pot — it’s across the board.)

Also, the Federal government needs to allow legal cannabis stores to have bank accounts and to process credit and debit cards. There have been a bunch of armed robberies of legal marijuana stores recently, since both the stores and the customers are sitting ducks with lots of cash (and since the police aren’t allowed to do much these days anyway when an ongoing crime is reported).

Yes, Republicans should support legalizing marijuana. Freedom is freedom.

Exactly. Unfortunately, the idiot Repubs here in my home state of KY killed the medical marijuana bills in this year's legislative session, saying they want more studies on the matter. Meanwhile, 37 states have already legalized it in some form.

“One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” No mention of putting one race ahead of another for opportunity or justice. Nor should there be. The entire CRT/Equity bullshit is just that. Bullshit.

The War on Drugs and attempts at gun control fail for the same reasons.

I don’t think anyone in America has been deterred from smoking dope because weed is illegal.

While I’m not in favor of people constantly walking around stoned, the government has historically taken a garbage stand against any food-based or plant-based medicine. I can’t help but suspect that a big part of the reason for this is that 40% of the FDA’s budget is paid for by the industry it’s supposed to be regulating. Likewise, a significant (I forget the amount) of the NIH budget comes from industry as well. Glaxo, Pfizer, Bayer, etc., won’t be able to make big bucks from natural remedies because they can’t patent the ingredients.

For example, on garlic: although the health benefits of garlic are widely known, anybody selling garlic supplements are required to put a “these claims have not been validated by the FDA” disclaimer on the package and on adverts. Same with ginger, cayenne, cinnamon, tumeric, or any other food-based medicine.

I’m sure many of us have seen the benefits of CBD oil for pain relief. If the FDA had its way, it would be illegal (why? because the drug companies can’t patent it)

I have little doubt that, if used in a traditional medicine fashion, there would be little if any negative effect on the use of the entire cannabis plant. It’s abuse that is the problem.

Here in Thailand, Kratom is a native tree and is very common. You can either pick the leaves off the tree yourself or buy them in a grocery store. Typically people make tea from it. It’s good for a post-workout drink to keep from getting muscle aches and it’s also good as a bedtime tea to slow the brain down for a peaceful sleep. (No, I don’t drink kratom tea every day...before you ask). BUT if you read the medical sites (mayo, webmd, etc) in the States, they’ll warn you that you’re gonna diiiiiiieeee if you even handle the substance. First hand experience:they’re wrong. Do I think that kratom leaves should be illegal in the US? Absolutely not. Do I think that if chemists extracted the active ingredients and concentrated them into a drug, should that drug be banned? I think it should be studied and controlled based upon the findings of the studies. (Not gonna happen because they wouldn’t be able to patent the extracted chemicals as they’re found in nature)

In S. America, natives chew on coca leaves particularly when they’re working at higher elevations to help counter the effects of hypoxia. Do I think that coca leaves should be illegal in those countries and perhaps elsewhere? No. Do I think that the active ingredients that are extracted and concentrated from those leaves should be illegal? I think they should be studied and controlled based upon a risk/benefit analysis.

As we’ve seen from the recent panic, Dem(on)s are very easily manipulated and have an innate desire to demonize other people and other things, depending upon what the thing of the day is. They were manipulated into sending the Prohibition amendment to the states and it took a Republican congress to send the repeal amendment to the states to fix the government overreach. They were manipulated into demonizing certain populations, that’s why the Coolie Laws were passed under them and why the Jim Crow era is solely their responsibility. They responded to “Reefer Madness” and made cannabis illegal in the first place. More recently, they were manipulated into pushing for vax mandates and masking. Small minded people, these Dem(on)s.

Hippocrates (of the Hippocratic Oath fame) said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”

In that spirit, I would love to see an honest evaluation of plants (including cannabis) for medicinal value rather than just defaulting the the pharmaceutical company’s preference of “the claims have not been evaluated” or Dem(on)-inspired automatic rejection. But I’m not holding my breath.

“Commie lib politicians are just giddy at the stupidity of high “Americans.” Drugs help them get elected.”

Put drug legalization on the ballot, and thousands of couch potatoes bother to vote for the Demons, making CCP and the other Commies very happy. What appears to be a personal issue is really one of national security.

Increasing drug use in our military bodes even more evil; especially as the brain isn’t fully developed until age 26 and psychotropic drugs can manifest themselves in delayed and dangerous ways. (Schizophrenia has continually increased in the last 25 years according to a Danish study published by CNN last year).
