If Trump’s Rage Brings ‘Civil War,’ Where Will the Military Stand?

The moment may come when soldiers have to choose between the Constitution and Donald Trump. No doubt most will embrace the Constitution. But some will see that as a tough call.

Earlier this week Donald Trump, commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces, tweeted that his impeachment “will cause a Civil War” from which the country might never recover. Picking up on remarks made by an evangelical pastor on Fox News, Trump did not just say his removal would lead to a huge electoral defeat for the Democrats, or even mass demonstrations. He said “civil war”. Americans taking up arms against other Americans in his name.

“Civil War 2” started trending on Twitter. So, for a time, did #CivilWarSignup.

In the modern era, real civil wars have been the great affliction of Third World countries—conflicts that split nations and societies along political, ethnic or religious fault lines. They are very often accompanied by martial law and resolved by military intervention. Is this what the president has in mind? Where would the U.S. military stand in such a situation? A view from the inside indicates the armed forces are as divided as the rest of the country—and divided is a dangerous place for the U.S. military to find itself.

After spending 19 years in Washington with intelligence jobs in Congress, at the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (focusing on counterterrorism and counterintelligence), I had the opportunity to join the commander’s Red Team at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida.

Within a few years, however, CENTCOM’s senior leadership told us Red Team’s “alternative analysis” was “confusing” the commander. (Truth was, they really didn’t want any competing analysis contradicting what the traditional intelligence analysts were selling.)

The standing army is a nothing burger in a real cavil war scenario. It is just too small to make a difference.

The army is set up as a mobile voluntary mercenary force design to interdict globally. It is not a large long haul fighting force.

That’s for sure. Ironically, a couple of weeks ago my husband and I both commented on his extreme red face while he was ranting at a campaign rally. He looked so rage filled we both said that is a heart attack waiting to happen. Another one who is out of control is Elizabeth Warren, her eyes look insane when she speaks.

Wasn’t Trump “rage” that brought this on, it was the criminal malpractice of the Democrat House Leadership?

Any member of the military who stands with this cabal conducting a secret “trial” without allowing the accused to defend themselves is violating their oath to the US Constitution.

So real questions is who are you going to stand with? The US Constitution or the Democrat Fascist Party?

Yes, at the most. Dishonorable discharge and jail at the least.

Look at the lessons of American History: The first time this happened was in 1861 and the military officer corps split directly along state lines that dealt directly with ideology. I suspect that we’re history to repeat, there would be a similar split.

Don’t forget that the majority of the military combat clout rests currently in the state national guards. During Civil War #1 the lack of technology kept ideology limited to local culture. That kept things simple. In the 21st century, with a civilian population extremely mobile, it probably won’t be quite so clear cut.

However, the spine of the war fighting capabilities are always found in the enlisted and noncommissioned officers has historically remained fairly stable and culturally rooted in an originalist view of the Constitution.

It won’t be Trump’s rage that brings a civil war. What cause civil war is the oppressive, greedy, power-hungry Washington elite trying to crush the individual rights of liberty loving Americans. Trump has simply allowed loosened the chains of such Americans.
