I didn't propose it. Somebody else did.

Then why didn't you attribute it to the original poster?

I was hit by a speeding freight train once and survived

That was rather foolish on your part, wasn't it? Or were you attempting to apprehend a criminal suspect at the time?

A bullet? Am I supposed to be afraid of a mere bullet?

Are you on the correct thread? Where did I mention a bullet?

How utterly absurd!

Your entire post qualifies.

A note on argument ~ in particular on this issue of having a well founded fear of being killed

There was more to consider than being killed. What if the attempted escapees hijacked the vehicle with the children in it? The desperation displayed in their attempt to escape indicates exactly what type of people this uniformed officer was facing. The reckless disregard for the safety of the children and the officer by the adult females in the car pretty much tells the story. Until something indicates otherwise, I have to accept what has been presented as factual.

When it comes to fear it's all subjective. It is possible none of these women believed what they were up against and narrowed their focus to 'what if so and so has to go to jail what will we do with the babies 'til she gets out' ~ by the time the cop was grabbing the car door they may well have all been in full flight mode.

I remember when a daring daylight robber tried to get in my car ~ had my young son with me ~ guy was trying to open the door and banging on the windows as I backed out of the space spinning tires.

I didn't know if he had a weapon, but I figured a guy doing that probably had at least a knife.

We still need to see the videos and remember that the women's behavior was counseled against what they, themselves, believed they'd been doing. There's the as yet unsubstantiated claim by store security personnel that they tricked out the scam ~ which is why they called in a report to the cop.

What if they're wrong?

YOU SAID: "Have you ever had a firearm pointed at you or discharged in your direction?"

I RESPONDED: "Am I supposed to be afraid of a mere bullet'

YOU SAID: "Are you on the correct thread? Where did I mention a bullet? "

BASCS: firearms use bullets!

BTW, I have been under the guns of Russian Tanks for hours on end ~ we were doing border patrol with the Bundes Grenzenschuss along the Czech/West German border when the Russians invaded Czechoslovakia.

Now they got some bullets'd kick your tail!

If you are inferring they were morons, I couldn't agree more. When you are judicially banished from Walmart and you return with children in the car to commit a crime, what other rational conclusion can one draw?

firearms use bullets!

Motor vehicles "use" gas, oil and tires. What's your point?

The article is about a person killed by an officer discharging his firearm. I didn't write the article. Had I, it would have been much more thorough and informative.

“I hope to hear that there was some good reason for the shooting.”

It’s called running from an LEO at the scene of a crime. Good riddance. It seems the cycle may be coming around to where now, the LEO’s can shoot to kill, rather than initiate pusuit and then have to break off pursuit if it gets too dangerous for the public. Anyone who flees from an officer can be rightfully shot. Period! If they are stupid enough to run, paint a target on em and have at it.

Proly not ~ give you an example ~ guy was trying a shoot'em up in New York. He encountered a couple of cops and they blew him away ~ with well over 50 rounds ~ AND they shot 9 innocent civilians in the area.

They should have all run away the second New York's finest showed up Fur Shur.

It would have been as wrong for the cops to shoot them for running as it was for just standing there.

Firing blindly into the interior of an automobile where you have no idea what your target opportunities are is a bit huffy don't you think?

We still haven't seen the WalMart videos ~ and I'm getting suspicious. As I predicted if they show what the cop says they show, they'll be out there on the street machschnell. Otherwise, they'll fight letting them get a public airing.

A couple of weeks of delay is enough to suggest the videos are not a thing like the cops claimed.

But we can be patient ~ after all, we are not dead.
