Ted Nugent: ‘Best’ if South had won Civil War
Seattle Post intelligencer ^ | July 6, 2012 | N/A

Posted on 07/07/2012 4:51:17 AM PDT by raulgomez05

Aging rocker and reality TV personality Ted Nugent is emerging, even ahead of Donald Trump, as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s most embarrassing public supporter.

Nugent is at it again, reacting to the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding the Affordable Care Act by writing in the Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Washington Times that America would have been better off had the South won the Civil War.

A full Nugent rant, which might be subtitled “Robe Rage”:

“The bottom line is that Chief Justice Roberts’ traitor vote will ensure more monumental spending and wasted taxes and put almost 15 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product under one of the world’s most bureaucratic, ineffective, incompetent and grossly expensive systems ever devised by man: our out-of-control federal government.

“Why can’t you agree with the statement that slavery should have been abolished?”

Show me where I said it shouldn’t have or just admit you are a liar by saying that.

That’s my point.

I love these arguments because as soon as CSA supporters admit that slavery was wrong, and that it should have been abolished they know their arguments are lost.

It simply amazes me that none of these Rebs can make the words come out of their mouths.

Mass abolished slavery, as had several other US states. I agree it was a states rights issue—but that is not my point. I just wish that folks could admit that holding folks in bondage was wrong—whether the state allowed it or not.

It has been the topic of my part of this thread.

So, you are suggesting that slavery was ok, and that it should not have been abolished.

Ok...maybe comparing the southerners to the Nazi’s was a bit harsh......maybe. You have quoted Lincoln correctly but, you must remember that the man was a politician. His ultimae goal was always to end slavery but, it was a labyrinth of games, double talk, speeches, and gamesmenship. All politicians try to please all sides at once, surely you know this? In the end, slavery was anded. And, it was ended by President Lincoln. That’s the only fact that matters.

As far as your thoughts on my opinion of the south goes, yes, I suppose I do think the south has a cross to bear when it comes to their history on race, slavery, and civil rights. It’s a pretty ugly period right up to the 1960’s. The only thing I will concede in your defense is that Northern racism has gone under reported by historians. Perhaps you should be the one to start reporting on it.

I know we're all a little edgy because our freedom is being sucked away from us by the current administration but

Current administration?

You don't think your freedoms were not being incrementally stripped prior to this one?

You're not paying attention.

A little edgy but?

That's a nice polite way of putting it.

Sure. I agree with that. Not sure that the north is solely responsible..but I agree that it should be banned.

So are ARE a liar for trying to childishly make claims of statements never said. Got it. A typical childish liberal. What’s next, “I know you are but what am I?”

The ENTIRE country has a cross to bear as do the blacks themselves. Blacks started slavery in the New World as it was a black man that enslaved another black man. Blacks perpetuate racism even today as much as any white man ever did. Racism will never end because we make laws. Morality cannot be legislated. Hatred is a hard thing to overcome, but so long as the greedy find profit in hate they will keep the hatred alive. We have to take the profit out of hate and that means ending Affirmative Action, welfare, and all other monetary benefits of claiming whites owe blacks. Once the people can no longer vote themselves money from the treasury through corrupt politicians using hatred as the vehicle, hatred has no more profit.

What’s to admit? Of course the North invaded the south. Do you admit, that never did a nation (the south) fight so hard, and so long, for such an unjust cause?

Look, I know the south has great people and great traditions and I believe in States Rights as much as the next guy but, the South really mucked up the very strong political argument of ‘States Right’ by fighting to the death over slavery...talk about your morning after regrets!!! What the hell was the south thinking?

To this day, the idea of ‘States Rights’ is tarnished by that ugly historical fact. It’s sad but, the south did it to themselves and now they’ve got to work themselves out of the mess. It’s only been a 150 years. In time, you’ll convince the Feds to mind their own business. Just keep making good arguments.

I agree that the Southern states should have outlawed slavery on their own, but will go to my grave believing that the federal government had no business telling the states what to do, and that the 13,14 and 15th amendments are invalid and should be ruled null and void.

Well, what other right was the south fighting for besides maintaining the institution of slavery? Inform me.

What exactly am I lying about? Since I did not direct the post specially to you? What kind of a child are you?

Your logic is what I used to deal with when dealing with illiterate immigrants who could not understand plain English. It is tedious and foolish. So stop pretending to not understand the question.

You are so blinded by the proposition that you support a form of government that sell human beings that you avoid the basic question. You support the CSA, they supported slavery, therefore you support slavery. You can wrap it up in states rights issues, I grant you that argument. It was up to the states. But slavery was wrong then. It should have been abolished and if it were, the south would not have rebelled.

Slavery was wrong!

The war was about the federal government retaining power and control over the states. Remember slavery was legal in the union at the beginning and at the end of the civil war.

If the war was primarily about slavery, the the Union would have abolished in its own territory before making war with the Confederacy.

BTW - read my tagline. It has been that way for years! (You might consider apologizing for implying that I condone slavery.)

Even Lincoln fought for laws to protect his home State of Illinois from allowing in freed slaves.

Lincoln originally wanted to return them to Africa.

Really?

You CSA nuts defend the indefensible. What else am I supposed to think?

And slavery was abolished without a war in my state. How come it took 600,000 lives to get it abolished in yours?

Really ,, Now you need to read upon a little history before you start running your mouth .

New york state was the last state to ratify abolishing slavery. Do a little research of these United States, instead getting it off the television.

Why is it so difficult?

Because admitting the truth of the foundation for the csa leaves them in the unenviable position of having to defend The Particular Institution. Thus it is better to strain at strawmen like federal intrusion and phony claims of tyranny.

Your scenario would/could never have succeeded. The Brits would have consumed us piecemeal. The different factions north and south were aware of their respective cultural and ideological differences and signed up regardless because the alternative was simply unthinkable.

And when Lincoln did issue the emancipation proclimation, it only covered the secceded (sic) Southern States, NOT the North or the slaves in the North. And the proclimation (sic) was done in the latter part of the war, when the North was losing.

You got the first part right but not the second. The south won several decisive battles early on but I don't think that anyone could claim a clear winner in 1863.

The war was about states' rights. More states' rights would give us a smaller, less over-reaching federal government.

The only "states right" that was at play was the souths desire to expand the slave trade beyond their existing state borders.

Slavery, as an institution was on it's way out in the South...

No it wasn't and the slavocracy blew up a nation in order to see to it.
